« on: September 04, 2008, 09:28:06 PM »
I have a 72 CB 500 I am in the start of my project to build it up to a one of a kind cafe. I am looking to do something that I haven't seen yet, i would like to build the engine some and would like to turbocharge it. If you have any info to get me started I would love to hear it. Thanks

I saw a turbo CB550 at the Vintage Motorcycle Days event this summer.  Although I can't remember the name of the turbo unit, it was a very professional looking job.

Its hard to be origional on these bikes..  I am looking forward to your turbo build though.. You will want to look for a RayJay kit (expensive) or something like it..

Turboing a carbed bike is a PITA. The best place to start on any turbo project is with Corky Bells book called "Maximum Boost". I sucessfully turbo'd an old VW rabbit using that book as a bible, but CIS FI systems make it kinda easy. I wonder if you could use megasquirt on a bike?

I seem to remember hearing about a version called the microsquirt that has been used on bikes.  Yep, http://www.microsquirt.info/.

Check out this post, he's got it going using a microsquirt system and throttle bodies adapted from an F4i.

At one point i was considering boosting my CB550 and i was steered away from the idea due to the added weight of the bike just something to consider if you are trying to make your bike light weight in the process of making it a cafe.

i used to build turbo systems for air cooled beetles. i ALWAYS did it as a draw through carb, blow through systems are a major pain. wonder if i can apply that experience to turbocharging a motorcycle. anyone know what size turbo i need to go with?
