I'm getting ready to do a build with a 74' cb750...I thought I wanted to do a café but after looking at the bobber/choppers I've decided to go that route...I really like the syle.... I'm getting ready to start as soon as the 79' vette I'm working on is done this week and I'm collecting the parts I'll need for the project I want. My first question has to do with wheels.....been thinking of going with mags and I've been searching the forum like mad ...found a list of bikes that match up with our axles. I'm looking at sport bike mags.... I've read you can get most metric rears to work but was wondering about the front ....can they be made to work well also and how big a job is it to setup the disk brakes for both? would a complete front end swap be easier? might there be a list somewhere of bikes that will swap over ? Thanks ahead of time.....Sully

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Now for a few questions I want to put a 16" rim on it and the largest tire I can using the stock hub and axle. It came with spacers so I could use them..the tail measures 9" inside to inside width..What do you think is the largest width I can go.....can I maybe get a 16 x 3 and a 150 on it....also wondering about the height ....To keep this height what tire size do I need.(stock tcb chopper photo not my bike)...and if I choose to lower it what size? .... I'm looking to tack the rear on with rim and tire so I can setup the braces for the fender on the frame. I'm looking at Harley 40 spoke for the back ....thinking about keeping the front stock size not sure. thoughts....thanks in advance. Sully

Figured it all out ........

Well no pics till tomorrow but got he bike stripped...cut off the tail and put the new tail in place ....on the bad side at the start I jacked it up with the floor jack and started to slide some blocks under it when it got away from me and fell over #$%*! Dented the left side cover and oil poured out....now I need to find a new one.....was a dumb ass mistake caused by rushing

don't mean to be a downer , but i really think you should brace it all up with scrap stock, and pull the motor . before doing this kind of major frame mod .   not that it's not possible with the motor in .  but your gonna want to move the frame around to weld and grind certain parts of it (the bottom for one)
lets say , you weld the whole top of it , then go to turn the frame over , now the weight of the motor is pulling on unfinished hot welds... not good
 then you still have to grind it . 

just my 5 cents

140 tire will just kiss the chain..


 you can go bigger with offsets but save your money to put into stuff that is more visible..

.. if you want to rake it a bit, now is the time..

Spikey: I never intended to do the job with the motor in just left it till I was done cutting off the back .. thanks for the heads up though.

754: not sure if I should rake it...may just stay stock with it...on the fence....

Ok a few pics .... after I cut the back off I mocked it up just to get a look at it .....then tonight I got the motor out of it ...also a shot of the damage the dumbass move of mine made to the cover ....haven' a little bit of a hard time finding one....

sucks that you got that dent....
what did you do to make sure the back rigid is square on the frame..????

If you look at this pic  on the bottom you see the hole? That uses the swing arm bolt and the curved part sits right against the cross brace on the bottom of the frame. Once you have it bolted in on the bottom it's pretty much square.

Can anyone give me a heads up on how to remove the axle from the front hub of the gl 1000? Dont want to screw anything up.....
