1973 CB350F - How do I remove the Honda Logo on the tank?
« on: September 21, 2008, 06:54:59 PM »
I have a replacement tank (Baccus Oilve rocks!) and  I need to get the "HONDA" lettering off the old tank and on the new.  I thought it was screwed on, but it is not - it appears to be pressed in.   Any tricks for getting it off without breaking it?

Use a thin putty knife. Work slowly around the whole logo.

When you get it off you see how it is attached.

There are little pegs with a steel collar pressed into a hole in the tank.  I use a thin wood wedge and patience.  Tape on the paint where you will be prying will protect the old tank if that is needed.

Thanks - that's pretty much what I figured, but I didn't want to do anything (else) stupid.

I think fishing line works best for removing emblems, from car/motorcycle and will not damage the surface if your hand slips.

Got the emblems off the old tank without any problems.   Found the little clips at www.motogrid.com.  Went back on the "new" tank nice and easy.

Also stripped the stuck front brake and reassembled, installed braided lines, and bled the for about 30 minutes (!).  I installed a speed-bleeder and it works as advertised.   Pulled out the rusty airbox, stripped off the electrics, repainted it and the chain guard and the inner fender (using trim black paint on the plastic) and put it back together.  Started right up again (in spite of the 34 degree temps).

Still lots to do, but it is ready to ride.
