checking oil

so i put the bike on the center stand to work on it and change the oil, well i drained all the old oil and put about 3.2 quarts in the bike and i still cant seem to see any on the dip stick. what is up with that. am i just not seeing it well or what

The bike should be warmed up then check the oil, with engine off.

i know there is oil on the dip stick bc it drips off i just cant see a distinct line. i am having starting difficulties right now with that whole starting thing haha.

You should be able to make out the change from dry stick to wet.  You might have to hold it so the light reflects off it.

You unscrew the dipstick and just set it back in, then remove it to check it.  Don't want to screw it back in to get the level.

yeah i know i did all that, maybe it is to much oil in it and its above the line. i can look down in there and see actual oil

what do you mean by cycle the engine at all since cleaning? i used the kick start a few times because i read you were supposed to do that. i was going to change the filter and have a new one to use but the damn nut that holds it on it stripped so i have to get a tool to get that off and buy a new bolt for that.

I found a bolt on eBay that has a larger nut less prone to damage. I think the smaller one was put on to avoid over tightening.
