Swingarm brace??
« on: October 10, 2008, 12:50:02 AM »
http://www.thetwinster.com/swingarm.htm

This is for a XS650 Yammie, but has anyone done this to a CB?  K2 750 to be more specific. ???  Or is the Honda swingarm stiff enough to not need braced...

Hey coyote,

Although this looks the bizz, the swingarm of the CB has no need for it. A good set of bushings will do the trick.

Cheers.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Thanks for the information!!  I was fairly certain that I hadn't seen a setup like that on a CB yet, even on the race bikes (like yours  :D )

Check out StrongPerf's braced swing arm:

(Click on the pictures, then about half way down the page)

The old SOHC swing arms could use a little bit of stiffening up.

Problem(?) with stiffening the swing is that the problems are transferred to other area's. Problem is not the swingarm itself but, it's bearings and weak pivotpoint in the frame. Do not get me wrong, a swingarm must be rigid enough. But the bike will not benefit from this. Chech your bearings, tires, shocks etc.etc.................

PS. This is a 'fat' looking swing.

Cheers, Rob

Stock length - no brace needed in my opinion. However, if you are extending it for wheelie control and more straight-line performance - them bracing is a cool way to go.

This is one I did on my H2 with 3" extra length added.

Yes it's a good strong one as is  - best upgrade is bronze bushings, makes it real nice and stiff. Ahem!  ;D

Thanks for the tips guys, this is just my street ride.  No need to go bonkers with the goodies, plus the added weight gain would negate taking the center stand off. ;)
