What cemented it for me on Frank, was when I was in Army, and we would get parcels of CD's/tapes that wouldn't sell, and the labels would donate them to deployed soldiers.
Anyway, I find a CD..."The Yellow Shark" by Zappa, and it stunk to high heaven IMO, it was a jumbled mess recorded in Germany, and the instrumentals were done by some screw-ball pretentious Euro-Germ outfit. Once bitten, twice shy here.
Edit to add- I am sticking to this one! Just played some tracks......a totally dated, politically bent mess. Frank was best with more classic Rock'n'Roll instruments and musicians. He tried to make something powerful with the "Yellow Shark" but the sounds fall flat IMO. He over did it, the greats like Mozart and Bach etc. were masters of getting the point across with splendid blending and complementation of the various instruments, Frank's attempt was a jumble because he was out of his depth on that album IMO. He was great at certain things, no question, but the orchestral bit was not his strong suit. Too bad it was his last, and he didn't redeem himself in my eyes.
