Electrical problems can be tackled just like the CBs. I have a '79 GL1000 and it too currently has electrical problems, but the 550 has my attention right now. The biggest issue comes with getting to the wiring as it's not a simple pull the tank and have full access procedure. More bits and bobs have to come off and it is a little more intimidating than the little CBs at first, but it's doable. The only thing that you should be concerned with is the state of the charging system as that will get pricey if components are bad.

Looks like a fun project.  I think I have heard that the generator is a real PITA to change though but not sure which model.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Nice. Who bid on it??? Couldnt wait til morning? Its almost out of my price range unseen. Looks like I could wait for a running one for a little more $ . It does look to have some good parts. I really want a 750 but theyre rare in this part of the world. Ive only seen with my eyes 2 cb 750s here in the last 18 years and a few choppers. I was so shocked to find a 350f  last year that i had to buy it.  ;D

Yeah, the stator coil is a PITA to change, on all of the GL1000, GL1100 and GL1200.  The engine must come out.  However, the engine comes out fairly easily as the frame rails unbolt and you can drop it out.

The stator was only a problem on the GL1200 though as it was oil-bathed, and there were some problems with the early runs with insulation on the stator windings.  Honda offers a lifetime warranty on replacement, and the GL1500 or GL1500 Aspencade replacements (with rectifier & regulator) offers a permanent fix.

I've heard that the original stators on the GL1200 generally last around 50,000 miles without replacement.  There's also a GM alternator conversion available, but on a naked Goldwing it might look kinda silly.

Looks like a fun project.  I think I have heard that the generator is a real PITA to change though but not sure which model.

With two hours left it is at $600.

Still looks like a heck of a deal.

Second that, my father in law's 1200 stator just took a dump @ 60,000.

He listed it poorly. Its hard to find on e-bay. Hes got 2 bidders both with zero feedback. I think I should wait and offer him $500 after the auction . Im only 40 minutes away and if he goes for it I can back out if its in bad shape or missing all the electrics or says oh yeah the guy i got it from said it wont keep a battery charged..
