Added another one...

I really need to stay away from Craig's List.  What started out as a search for an air box for my 77 750F, I ended up with an entire 78 750F.

I found this on Craig's List for $600 (14K miles on it).  The stock exhaust is in excellent condition, the side covers are just about perfect, it's pretty hard to find any rust at all on this bike.  It looks like it was kept in a garage for years - the rear tire even has gray floor paint in it.

The guy I purchased this bike from found it at a motorcycle dealer who was going to scrap it because the customer did not want to pay for 10 hours of labor to have it repaired.  Since the bike has no title, the individual I purchased the bike from was going to part it out.  I just could not let that happen, this bike is too nice for that.

When I got the bike home, I put in some gas, a battery from my other bike, I pulled the choke and it fired right up.  It ran like crap, (runs with the choke pulled and and at about half throttle - sound familiar) but a good carb cleaning should take care of that.

I am thinking of swapping the exhaust off of my 77 F and replacing it with the stock one from the 78, I would do the same with the seat as well.  If I did that I would have a pretty nice stock ish 77F.  As for the 78F I have not decided what I should do with that.  I'm thinking of a paint job, lower bars and .....  Well I guess I have all winter to think about it.

Here's a picture of the 77F I put together earlier this year (August)

Nice bike and at a good price.....I know the feeling about saving (buying) bikes, ya just can't let them be wrecked or abused when they are a fairly decent maching just needing some attention. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Like it or not in these situations you paid for someone else's bike and there is a good chance down the road he can come back and try to reclaim it. If you got a reciept from the shop you could call the previous owner and tell him you have purchased the debt on the bike from the shop and you would like to pay him something for the title, or you can file a mechanics lein against the title holder for the amount he owed the shop and hope that he doesn't make a big fuss and hands title over to the state. just some options.

If you decide to part it out, I'll buy all the stock bodywork and the brakes off of you.
