1976 CB750F. Exhaust advice?
« on: November 20, 2008, 02:49:50 PM »
Hello, Long time lurker, infrequent poster.

To bring you up to snuff,

1974 K frame
1976 F Engine
DOHC swingarm
16 X 3.5" tires front and back
GL1000 front end
14.5" rear shocks
Early model carbs.

I've hit a hitch in my exhaust plans. I have a mac 4-1 header, but two issues.

A) it's too low for my "end-of-line" plans (chopping, lowering) but will work for now, especially with the extra height from the front end and shocks.
B) The header fits the bike, but my OEM exhaust shims don't fit the pipe? The O.D. of the headpipes is larger than the I.D. of the exhaust shims. Anyone else noticed this with a Mac Header? I'm guessing that maybe the shims are wrong, but the part numbers checked out.

So;

Does anyone know of a good header (preferably 4-2, but would do a low profile 4-2-1 or 4-1) for a later model SOHC CB750? One that won't cost a lot, preferably. :)

Any advice on swapping the early spigots from my clapped out '74 engine to the '76?

Thanks!

I like Kerker, but they are kind of ugly and rust/blue easily. If you will be lowering your bike, the collector sits pretty low- no rolling off curbs. You get what you pay for. Great sound with the 2" baffle...   Ever seen the "x" pipe?
slow and steady does nothing.

heh...

we have differing opinions on "inexpensive" it would seem. :)

I might just go with mac drags and baffles, but I'm gunshy of the mac pipes now... after the "shim fiasco".

RatSO,
I just jammed my MAC headers into into the exhaust ports on my '76F without the shims--tightened 'em down good

Scored a set of 4-2s on Ebay... cheap. Description said they were stock... but I've never seen them before... not that means anything, but I've been searching for headers for a long time... and I've never seen these on a F model before. I'll post pics when I get 'em.

There is no 'stock' 4 into 2 for the SOHC4's.
No.
