carb sync tools
« on: December 02, 2008, 03:13:56 PM »
My sons are going to get me a set of carb sync tools for Christmas and I don't know which ones to have them buy.  Are the guages better/more accurate/easier to use than the carbs sticks?
I know there are several different brands available.  If money were no object(since its their money I can say that) what would you get in this situation?

I researched Carb tune gauges for months. The Morgan Carb Tune came up over and over. I ordered a Morgan last week for under a $100.00 including shipping to the states.

+1  I've accumulated a variety of gauges over the years, they are the best and the price is right!!

The Morgan unit has come up many times.  I bought mine in 1999 and they are great.  Mine came with brass nipple vacuum connections.  I heard those are now plastic and some guys had the plastic nipples break when taking the vacuum hose of and on.  I heard some were trying to find brass ones again.

Carbtune sells the brass ones separately. Haven't had problems with my plastic ones yet, but if I do, I might spring for them next time around.

I finally broke down and bought a set of gauges on eBay  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vacuum-Carburetor-Synchronizer-carb-sync-Gauge-sc2_W0QQitemZ220320020052QQihZ012QQcategoryZ43991QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

These show a BIN of $112 but mine were $94  ???  They shipped waaaaay fast and I was pretty damned happy with the quality, there isn't ANY plastic in this set, all chromed brass and steel and good rubber hoses and include a good selection of adapters.  They use a ball and seat for the damper.  I hooked them to a mainfold I made to check and see if any weren't equal (as per Honda Service Bullitin 750 #9 ;) ) and they read dead-nuts level across the rack.

And I'm a mechanic, I just like gauges ;D

If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Morgan makes a great gage set and they came out with a newer model recently (Carbtune Pro).  You really can't beat the exchange rate with the UK right now.  Good time to buy.

I'll give another recommendation for the Carbtune.....   easy to use, reasonably priced, works like a champ.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Thanks, guys.  I think I will get them to buy the Carbtunr Pro.  Right now it is $87 shipped from UK.
