Does anyone here know these people?
« on: December 02, 2008, 08:59:13 AM »
Hello sohc people. I just dropped in from the XLForum to check out if anyone knows a couple of people who've appeared on the XLF.

ev0lution7 (ev0lution_7@hotmail.com) registered in August this year and posted for the first time today asking for parts and money to help get his sick friend's Sporster back on the road. As he wasn't known on the XLF, he's been given a pretty hard time as a potential scammer (we've had them before).

Since then, his friend Kitsune06 has also registered on XLF and by coincidence has come across his old buddy evo.

Both claim to be known on this forum, and to have a thread running on here for the same worthy cause.

Can anyone here vouch for these people, so we can act accordingly? They may well be straight up, but it came across as suspicious. If anyone can vouch for them, I'm sure XLF members will help out hwever they can.

The thread is at http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=374205

Cheers
steelworker

I can speak for Kitsune. Shes known personally by a few members here who are very straight up. She lives close to a few of us.I don't know evo, though.

Have you read this? http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=43810.0

Can't vouch for evo (just because I don't know him), but I'd vouch for kit any day.  She seems about as stand up as you can get.

I do know that Kit and her friend MickeyX have just picked up a Sportster that is in need of a few parts.

(Edit) Okay I found this in the Shameless thread from Kit:

Quote
Oh, hey, just wanted to flag all the shameless guys here, Ev0 posted something on the 'other bikes' section about a buddy with some kind of lung disease or cancer (?) who really only has a year of riding left and wants to get it in before he (literally or functionally) dies.  He needs some gas $ and a set of rubbers to put on his (ugh) sporty (I will not judge, X has a sporty, I will not judge, X has a sporty...)  and when Ev0 went to the harley sporty forums, they tore him a new one in a freakin' rude way (like the asshats they are there)...

so check it out, maybe we can help him somehow.
(oh and giggle at what I wrote those douchebags on the sporty forum)

Looks like the XL guys could have taken the higher road, but didn't.  I certainly understand being wary of scams, but all it takes is a little research.  I haven't gone and read what exactly happened at the XLForum, but I will stand behind Kit 100%.  If she said they were a$$hats, I believe her.

the folks at XLF (some 25000+ members) have donated tens of thousands of dollars, parts and hands on help to each other for years..... Mr Evo makes his first post with a sob story asking for money.......

judge for yourself

Okay, now I have read all 6 pages of the XLForums thread.  I will confirm that they are a$$h0les.  Here's how it went.  Evo started the thread.  2 people posted with reluctant comments.  Evo then posted again and referenced our forum by name.  The XL folks then spent 4 PAGES ripping Evo a new one before someone suggested checking out Evo's story about this forum.  On page 5, Steelworker and Darett confirmed Evo's story(loosely), but the rest of them still went on into page 6 ripping on Evo.

I'm with Kit, in that it probably wasn't the best idea for Evo to start a relationship with a forum by asking for this.  But they had plenty of time to check Evo out.  Instead, they had fun by being rude.  It's always harder to do the right thing.  All they did(in my mind) is reinforce the stereotype.

Not all of 'em were #$%*s, 333.  Every forum has its share of vocal asshats who perform more than their share of douchebaggery.

I got the impression that most of the HD members were very wary (like we would be) but willing to help if provided more info, while others were simply rude and aggressive and made Ev0 the butt of their jokes.  You gotta admit though, someone coming onto a forum unannounced and unknown by the members with no posts asking straight up for money with a sad story sounds pretty fishy in any situation.

I agree that maybe Evo could have presented himself better but I find reactions seemed to fall under either suspicious (Which I think it totally reasonable and I think in the same situations I would have done the same) OR complete douche nozzles. Seemed like there was no in between.

Hopefully the bike will be ready. Thats all that matters.

Agreed, DammitDan.  And it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the (impression of) the whole barrel.  They had 4 pages to come here and check Evo out.  And this forum is no spring chicken.  While we can't match 28,000 members, our 5000 have been around quite a while.

I agree with DD on the fact that Evos first post being a request for money could be seen as suspicious. We have had a few like that here ourselves...Need i remind people of Brimmer? Anyways...at one point i would have probably been on the side of the ones that thought HD owners were nothing but aholes and jerks that were loyal to their brand. But after living with a couple harley owners for the past 3 years my views have changed. Hell nowadays i want to eventually start building a new bike from the ground up that would be a cross of the Night train and Crossbones.

As for Kit like the others i will vouch for her as well.

Nope. I won't vouch for Kit. She's a troublemaker, that one.  ;D

So, I see another thread got out of control. I can see they would be suspicious. I would be too. The personal attacks and slights were out of bounds. Period. They got invited to check the guy out on a forum he has been on to see for themselves. It took 4 pages before anyone did that. Thank you to the guys who were standup enough to come here. Overwhelmingly though, many chose the low road even after those guys came here and verified who Evo and Kit were. Knowing Kit, it was the personal slights and nastiness that pushed her over the edge. It would anyone, but she has the guts and morals to speak up when she sees someone getting shafted and ridiculed. I love that about her and wouldn't change that trait in her for anything. Yeah, we own a Harley. Not my first, probably not the last. (For those who don't know, back in the day, a Harley used to be an American motorcycle.) We also own a Honda and a Suzuki and can't get a wave from a Harley rider when we are on them. Just sayin'...  :-\

Happy trails (to everyone) and keep the rubber side down.  :)
