the tank also depends on what seat you want to use. i know the super sport tank on my '72 750 goes a bit further back then the stock, so i really don't think it would work with a stock type seat.

77-78 tanks are longer.People have intermixed(crossbread) tanks and seats between the early and later models but they usually look like sh!t.........The early seats hinge on the left...laters on the right......if you have the tools and knowhow...anything can work!!!!!

Thanks folks!

I will be building a new seat so I will shape it after I fit a tank.  Isn't the 77 tank the same shape as the 78?   I would like the an older style tank, with the exposed gas cap.

I was thinkin of going with some kind of BMW or Harley tank, but i am afraid their undersides are not deep or wide enough

hmmm

Here's my 78 with an older tank on it...it fits completely stock...there is a fairly big gap between the stock-seat and tank

The petcock was on the correct side...but it was a different size (larger) than the 78 petcock

ultimately I did not use this tank and its up for grabs
