Now that I've scored that 250cc Jawa engine, I'm looking into how I'm going to get it from Florida to Arkansas. The seller said he would set it up to ship, but he could take it with him to Daytona, if the winner was to be able to get there. So, I'm asking if there is anyone who might be from around Arkansas that I can make a deal with to bring it to maybe within a couple of hours away and meet me or, if that won't work, I will be checking into what ever the best deal would be to get it here. Gotta find out what that sucker weights though. Any thoughts?

Fuzzy, In the listing, it says mims, Florida. zip 32754

Jerry, Appreciate the thoughts, but I think it would be cheaper to ship the engine than for me to drive down and pick it up. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing Daytona, but I'm not THAT enthused, especially with the "Guardianship Lawsuit  coming up before long.

Anybody? Or if someone might could pick this up protect it well enough for DHL or someone like that to accept it and (of course) I'll pay for it. The seller says he thinks it'll weigh out at about 100lbs and (roughly speaking) I speculated the the measurements might be something like 24" long, 18" wide & 24' high. @ 100lbs, DHL quoted $63.03. I've sent a message to the seller about the DHL quote but I'm not sure how much the seller wants to do towards prepping for shipment.

C'mon Guys, let's figure out how to get this motor to Bill.  If we can get it to Montgomery, or Birmingham, I'll get it to Memphis.  Maybe Bill will meet me there.  Start thinking how we can set up a relay. >:( ??? :)

That's what I was wondering about, a relay of sorts. At first, I thought that maybe there might be someone who was coming from the West of me and could possibly pick it up and drop it off for me. But, since there doesn't seem to be anyone who could do that, maybe what John is suggesting, might could be pulled off. Take me about 4 1/2 hours to get to Memphis (I think that's right), depending on how many PitStops I had to make. ::) Oder I get, the more I need to make. :( Appreciate any efforts on this, as I am looking forward to working on this old Jawa with my Dad, if he doesn't get too bossy! :D

Hey, Bill,

Mims is only about 25 miles away from me, so I can go get it tomorrow (Saturday) and bring it home.  It's only a 'town' in that it's the intersection of US1 and Route 46.   ;D  That gets it out of the seller's hands, and into someones more on 'your team'.

From there, we can figure something out more at your leisure, that is, no seller banging on about 'when are you going to come get this thing...'

PM me with email address or phone number and we can work out the details.

Kirk

Well John, Kirk (kirkn) has picked that Jawa engine up for me and now, if I could figure out how to get it to you, I would be more than happy to meet you at Memphis. I told my Dad about the attempts to get it here and he wants to come with me, when and if we can get to that point. I may just have to ship it and reimburse Kirk for what ever it takes to get it shipable. My main concern right now is to get past this Stupid "Guardianship Lawsuit" against my Dad.

Well, I used my super scientific methodology, and got:

315 lbs, me holding motor, on bathroom scale
230 lbs, me alone on bathroom scale

85 lbs,  motor

So, there you have it:  85 lbs (plus whatever crate or box we need to come up with) from my zip code (32766) to yours.   :D

Whew! :o I knew it was a hefty, just didn't realize how much though! Hate that you had to weigh it that way, but I appreciate your doing it. 8) Now, to decide who to get to ship that chunk of a
motor. ;) Sure will be good, not to have to worry about going through that before putting it in the frame. Probably will clean it up good and maybe do some detailing on it.

well Bill, i've hard all sorts of horror stories about dhl, BUT, when i was selling and shipping alot of ford stuff (and the occasional saddle) i never had a single problem with them. i sent a dressage saddle all the way to grants pass oregon and only paid 26 bucks, and it was there 2 days faster than they said it would be too. i have shipped stuff like 390 ford cylinder heads which are way WAY over 100 pounds a pair and did it fairly cheaply, less than 50 dollars i believe.

I understand that Greyhound is really good at shipping those kinds of things for a reasonable price.

Dang I wish I could help. I should be down there for 2 weeks in early March (through Bike week but sans bike  :'( )

Problem is I am travelling with fam and 8 of us in a minivan doesn't leave much space for a motor! Not to mention we stick to the I75 for the north/south portion...

Just got a PM from droopy to say that his wife is in Orlando now. And the engine may be getting ready to make another move (or not) Kirk picked it up for me and there may be 2 more folks getting involved. A reminder though, if it doesn't work out and I end up having to ship that engine, I've no regrets, ill feelings or anything of the sort.
It was just a thought that, if our folks could do some sort of shuffle to move that engine from there to Arkansas, it would not only be cool, it would also mean that we might could end up doing the same off and on for others. ;)

Well, here's how it's coming down: Kirk (kirkn) picked the engine up from the seller, John (jtb) offered to bring it to Memphis to meet me if someone could get it to Birmingham. Jeff (fuzzybutt) waiting in the wing (so to speak) to help however he could. Then, James (droopy) says that his wife was going to be in Orlando and he could pick it up from Kirk and take it to Hartwell, GA. In the meantime, I was getting around to take my Dad to Little Rock to be there for the "Guardianship hearing" Friday. So, I asked that they try to work out the details among themselves and on the way to Little Rock, Thursday night, I got a call from James who let me know that John had a "guaranteed pickup and delivery to him at Birmingham and then he would get with me to setup a meeting time and place. Sounds quite complicated, huh?

I just want Kirk, James, John, John's buddy, and Jeff to know that I (and, don't forget my Dad)am (are) very grateful to you all for you efforts, planning and commitment to get that old 250 Jawa engine to where we (I hope to have my Dad with me) can pick it up at Memphis. This, on top of taking the wind out of David and Jan's sails. 8) ;) YES!!!!!!!!! ;D

Cool..

when I bought my 06 Indian engine (most of one), I paid the guy on the NEast coast, and he shipped to Wa state.

Picked up by a buddy in Vancouver and brought into BC.

Then a vintage racer, who was riding his street GoldWing was to bring it to me!

.. seems to be how it works in the vintage world... heh..heh..

Where is it now?  There are folks from Bham going to bike week who can bring it to Birmingham if it's still in Orlando.  If it's in Hartwell, let's get to work on the Georgia Boys to get it West.

It's still with me in Orlando.   :)

When I heard that someone was going to bike week, that seemed the best way to go.  I'll be there, too, at least one day, or they can shoot down about 45 miles from Daytona to me, or I can shoot up there another day.  I'll just have it in a cardboard box to keep the trunk of someone's car clean...  ;D

John, let me know when your buddy plans to be in Daytona, and I'll meet up with him somewhere.

Sorry about that Kirk! :-[ Yes, I got a message from John that he had the Jawa engine in his garage. And , as soon as we can get "open dates" that we can go with, we will be making the trip to meet and hand that engine over to (hopefully me Dad and) me, to bring back to Greenwood. ;)  The engine will have a lot of "Friendly" history added to it by the time we get it.  And I want to thank YOU, John, & Lee for Your efforts! 8) And I also want to thank Jeff (fuzzybutt) and James (droopy) for their offers and also those who I KNOW, would have helped oif they would have been in the position (locationwise) and that would have been a great number of you I know. 8) ;)     Sorry about the delay in passing on the info.

                                   Take care all, Bill ;)
