cb72 2ls rear brake for racing !
« on: October 13, 2008, 04:33:38 AM »
Hello sohc forum.

Im working on a classic racer (replica rc181)
I like to make the rear wheel with a 2 leading shoe brake.

I have the cb72 rear (200mm) hub, but it is very heavy (6,8 kg.)
has any one seen it on a racer ?

I know people say that I dont need a 2ls, at the rear, but i like the look.
and honda did it.

Like to hear some ideas, mayby replica parts out there ?

Thanks
Peter

I am not aware of lighter hubs other than to drill large holes in the drum between the gussets.  Later CB72 and CB77 hubs were all 2ls.  If you want a larger brake, try the hubs from the CL77 and CB450 models produced from 1966 onward.  More info may be available by posting on Yahoo Groups honda305 and on the AHRMA site.  Dennis in Wisconsin

Hi, Peter. Sounds like a great project. The CB72/77 runs the drive chain on the right side; the CB750 on the left. If you simply flip the 2LS rear brake, the cable pulls the wrong way. Have you figured out a solution around this issue?

A company in England did make a replacement cover with a built-in scoop for this rear brake, but they were very expensive. I believe their design relocated the brake shoes and controls to pull correctly, though.  RR
