cb550 exhaust questions and pics
« on: January 15, 2009, 05:17:13 PM »
theseare the pipes that i have on my550, and i am currently doing a port job on my cylinder head and a cb650 cam swap. with these performance upgrades i am wondering if these 4-2 pipes are going to hamper these mods.  ive heard that 4-1 pipes are better for tuning and overall performance power.  i really like the look of these but if i can get better performance from 4-1 mac exhaust ill do it --if its a noticable gain.   any thaughts?

My first thought is "That’s a really cool bike".
The porting and top end rebuild will make quite a difference, especially with the 650 cam.
I've read that the mac pipe doesn't add to the performance, so I'd keep my ebay eyes looking for a Kerker or something similar.
Till then keep the 4 into 2 setup.

I don't believe the Mac is a performance exhaust system.  And, for the price why would it be?  It is modeled to sort of look like one.  But, its real purpose is to replace a rusted out exhaust system as cheaply as possible...
and make higher levels of noise.
