CB750K3 w/dual sport tires?
« on: January 18, 2009, 03:43:34 PM »
Like the title says, has anyone tried it? :)

Here is an quick back ground of myself and the bike. Started riding street bikes around 95' and have owned around 15 bikes total mainly sport bikes. After not riding for about 8yrs I purchased a 73' CB750 this past,
September and I have been smitten by the riding bug again.

So I am detrimened to ride this winter as I have never ridden during the winter before (live just outside Boston). So far I have ridden around 10 times in sub 30 degree temps and around 5-6 times in sub 20 degree temps.

In an attempt to make my 73' Honda CB750 more winter friendly I've been thinking of fitting a set of dual sport tires to it.

So has anyone fitted there "standard style" bike with dual sport tires?

Any opinions on how much more traction this might add?

And the bike in question.

Someone was asking about michelin anakees, they're a radial dual sport tire.  The advice was go for it, lots of members have been running radials, and the price is pretty good.  Someone mentioned that it's a popular tire for bmw dualsports too.  Maybe check a V-strom forum, they'll know.

Avon Distanzias would be a good choice too, you might have to find an 18" rear wheel to get into a DS tire though.  Hell you could run TKC 80's for that matter!!! ;D

If you're gonna run DS tires might as well make sure everyone knows it>>> http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product?storeId=10101&Pr=p_Product.CATENTRY_ID%3A2015135&productId=2015135&catalogId=10111

I found these @Motorcycle superstore, kind of a challenge finding a 16" rear.  Anyone know anything about the trail wing's?

You've gotta be really careful picking the right tread pattern with the Trail Wings.  Some are dirt biased and some are street biased.  They've earned the nick-name Death Wings :D

The Bridgestone DeathWings...I'd go with Anakees or Tourances if I could...I know the fronts come in 100/90 sizes, but I'm not sure of the rear size ranges....

Check out this thread on advrider.com
There's a later 750 nighthawk with aggressive tires on it and other bikes converted for dual sport use.  advrider has a lot of great bike threads.

Kenda makes DS treads that will fit on standard CB750 Wheels.  I had them on an FT500 and rode several times in freezing conditions.  Good traction and cornering wet or dry.  Keep 22 lbs or more in the front to prevent cupping.  Stay away from black ice!

Less than a week ago I got a set of Michelin Anakee's mounted onto my rims.

Bike is a '79cb650.

The rear tire wasn't 100% the size I wanted.... 130/90-17 is stock, endeed up with a 130/80-17. Up front running a 100/90-19.

They had me wondering before I had them on the rims just leaned against the bike.
But I'm OK with how they look.

The one thing that sold me was the $$. I got a sweet deal on the tires!(about 200$)
With them mounted, balanced, and tire $$ about 240 total.(I tried the strap method posted a while ago, with no success)

Only rode for about 1.5 miles so far, so sorry, no ride reports really(still riding like i'm on ice, oh wait... there is ice on my neighborhood roads...)

Go for it!
If you go to the michelin website, they have a "graph" showing the level of water traction, dry traction, life expectancy etc, on a 1-5 scale.
They rate better that the macadams they used to make. And I liked those.
I think their "pilot" series of race tires are the only ones with a higher grip rating.

TT100 V-profiles, 4.10-19 front and 5.10-18 rear, K81 Dunlop (or Avon) make REAL nice cornering feet on the 750.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.
