'78 750A comstars easy swap onto '78 750k?
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:08:24 PM »
Searched the forums for hours and just getting more confused, so here goes:

I have a bent front wheel on my dual front disk K8.  I'm wanting to go towards a non-spoke rim.  Would comstars from a '78A be an easy swap?  Or would the dual disks muff everything up?  I'm not sure why, but his rear rear wheel doesn't match the front...hmmm...

I don't think a comstar that takes a five bolt rotor is from a 78 750A, I thought 5 bolt rotors started in 79 on DOHC bikes.  Didn't the CB750A come with spoked wheels with aluminum rims only?  Some ebayers don't quite know what they have, that's the best way to score a deal at times.

According to wikipedia, its got the same rotor/brake set up as my '78K.

http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_CB750A  Scroll to the bottom.

Except it looks like the speedo drive is on the left side.  I'm just worried my Dual rotor set up will muck everything up.  Anybody have any insight or try this?

The rear is a 17" so I think it should be a direct "bolt in".

The 77F / A and later went to the left side speedo drive and 5 bolt brake discs. The 76 A had spoke wheels and the later models had Comstars. The A is considered the "bastard" model of the 750. Look at the sellers other auction for the front brake disc and you will find a 5 bolt brake disc (old style 2 peice, specific to the 78 A).
I would think it would be easier to stick with the K model parts instead of mixing and matching.

Heres the link to the 5 bolt old style 2 peice brake disc (simular to the K style 6 bolt disc, but with 5 bolts instead)

aahhhh, didn't realize the bolt difference.  these will definitely not work, unless i want to do a lot of modding.  i'll pass.  thanks for the info!
