Got a Question About CB/CCL77 Cylinders And CB/CL350 Sleeves.
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:02:56 AM »

You see, when I start on Super Hawk, Later this Summer, hopefully, I'm just wondering about the feasibility of being able to install a set of 350 sleeves in the 305 cylinders? Back in the day, you could get a "350 Conversion Kit" from Powroll and I happened to see a set of 350 sleeves on ebay, while browsing. Now, I have no idea if there is enough meat there to make the installation possible or not AND I don't know if the 350 pistons would work with the valves (clearance wise). Any one with any input on this at all (or know someone who might have)?

                                       Take care, Bill ;)

Bill-

This is probably a question for Steve, over at HondaTwins.
I think he might know, if anyone would.
I'm not sure if it could be done without some machine work.

The old 305/350 "kit" was actually just a big (12'th over) overbore, like guys do with the 450/500 conversion. I had it done on my own SuperHawk, back in The Day - I do recall there wasn't much meat left in the cylinders afterwards......

I knew of the 350 Conversion, but didn't know that was involved exactly and thought that maybe, just maybe, the 305 cylinder could be machined out to take the 350 sleeves. Kinda figured that since I was wondering about the possibility, it couldn't be done. ::) Just my luck, you know? :( BTW, how did yours perform, after that?

Remeber the 350 is only 325, I think, not sure what it will make out of a 305.

My 350 though was bored to 357 or 360, got the kit from Rocky I think..

It ran pretty strong as I recall, Bill. Quite a bit stronger than stock, but that's almost a 17% displacement increase.
Of course that was a couple of years ago.  :-X  ;)  :o

Actually, it may well be possible to do what you're thinking, with a bit of machining - let's see what Steve says....

357 - 360? And that was just from boring it out?

BTW, I went over to305.com and found where a fellow was contemplating making a 500cc  out of his 305 Super Hawk! A 500! And, no doubt, he was probably going with the conversion (that I just saw a bit back, posted here and now can't seem to find it) that involves adapting the 450DOHC cylinder and head to the 305 lower end. I don't have ANY of the details about the conversion. I wish I did, probably more than I could even think about spending.

Then, here is a photo of a 305 Super Hawk  engine with the  6sp (Nova, I guess) trans dropped in there, Carefully I'm sure! :D Talk about FULL! :o 8)

All I know, so far, is that it's a 305 Super Hawk engine built for racing and has a 6sp trans in there. I've been looking for info and more shots of the conversion that was done to install the 450DOHC (and the SuzukiGS400) top end on the 305 lower end. 8) I've kinda gotten the urge to do something, Performance Wise, to my Super Hawk Engine before I get it prepped to build with. I would like to, at least, make a 350 out of it and got plans for a 5sp trans for mine. Just have to see what I can find out and how it goes. :)

Hi Bill,
just measure between inside edges of diagonally opposite stud holes and subtract 6~7mm.
If the studs are offset, measure the closest ones
That's the biggest piston you can fit with 3~3.5mm liner thickness.
Let me know numbers and I'll see if I have anything laying about (GS850, or Yamaha XS400 68mm pistons into CB77?  ;D ;D)
