Engine Clearcoat
« on: January 29, 2009, 06:46:16 AM »
I was planning on using Duplicolor engine enamel, both gloss black and clearcoat, but I dont know how long the clearcoat will keep it's shine.  Will it yellow pretty quickly?  Am I better off just leaving it with the gloss black, or should it be fine for a few years?

Im polishing the ends of the fins and was going to clear over everything to keep it from corroding over time.

Will the clear over the bare metal show yellowing after it gets hot a few times?  Will the yellowing affect the look of the black paint much?  Anyone that's done this before who has seen it happen?

Thanks Fellas.

I used the High heat clear over painted crankcase covers and a bare metal  exhaust canister a few incarnations ago, and found it to be a tough paint, but prone to yellowing rather quickly

Yeah, make sure you go with 'high heat' clearcoat. I used standard automotive clearcoat on my clutch cover etc. and it all shrank and fell off  :'( I like it better without in now though anyway.
