building your own exhaust
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:30:07 PM »
i have really been digging that 4 into 4 race type exhaust i've been seeing on 750's lately, i dont really much care for the high price though. does anyone here know how hard it is to fabricate this sort of megaphone? i'd like to try my hand at doing an exhaust system like that here in my shop. i've done custom pipes before for v-twins so the pipe end of it shouldnt be a problem. i have a kerker 4 into 1 now and i'm really not at all happy with it, the sound and look arent what i'm into anymore. this pic is courtesy of BCR.

Do you have a link to the place that sells the ones you pictured?

I think it was member DME who took a set of stock pipes and shorted them a bit, they looked really good and it should really not be that hard. I am going to do the same thing very soon so I am interested if you start something similar.

yeah, I sucked it up and am having Benji make me a set of 4 into 4 shortys for my project bike (got a nice, big bonus from work).

I thought about trying to make my own, but wit the cost of the equipment I would have needed, it would have been just as expensive.

Check out this site for parts, though: http://www.coneeng.com/mufflers.html

Maybe just as expensive, ut then you would have the pipes and the tools.  You could make more.

Keep your eyes out for the exchange rate between the British pound and the US dollar.
I was going to try my hand at making my own pipes w/ parts from cone engineering, but I was able to buy a new set
from DSS for $586 + 115 shipping - granted $700 is still an arm and a leg, but it was just about the same price as the
parts I would need to build my own, and I had them in 4 days.

I still haven't found a better source of parts than I did from Cone Engineering
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

What I want to know is what is the cfm of one of the stock 4 into 4 pipes are, this would be nice to know for any who are going to build so they would have a baseline of normal flow and what muffler to choose. I am going to get a cherrybomb pipe and wondered how close I can get to matching the original flow....
