L P M Plastic Motorcycle Parts - Side Panels
« on: January 31, 2009, 01:29:08 AM »
:) I know these have commented on before, but I felt I needed to throw 2 more cents in. I just got my side panels today and they are a much better product than stock in that they are very heavy duty plastic. They must weigh 2-3 times what the original ones did. I can't see these breaking like the brittle stock side panels that were on my bike. They also have marks for drilling to attach emblems. I also got them fast for being shipped from the UK to Tennessee. Shipped on 1/23 and received on 1/30. It took me longer than that to get a camera shipped from Amazon.com (thanks to USPS shipping at Amazon :-\). I would recommend anyone do business with them.

Me too. Although it did not have to cross so much water, I live in the Netherlands just across the North Sea, they deliver fast. Side panel are of a very good quality.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

They're pretty on par for price too. 28 pounds is about $40 right now? Can't hardly get a decent used one for that.

Thanks!

The rate today for the K1-K6 converts to $81 USD, very tempting.

Then there's the cost of emblems and new grommets...don't forget new grommets!

What is the skinny on painting this material?  Has anyone done this yet?  I heard of one "buyer" having problems that they thought were due to the material type.  I'm sure it's just a matter of using the right primers or whatever.

This is done.  You guys have me all excited now.  I need grommets too.  Where's the good deal on new grommets?

In the US, www.servicehonda.com is about the cheapest OEM site i've found.  Their fiche is a bit hard to use so I look up part numbers here http://www.babbittsonline.com/ then paste them into the order form on Service Honda.

i scuffed the cover with some 600 grit, primed it and painted. no problems at all. also you MUST wash them very thoroughly as theres mold release agent on it still, hot water and plenty of dawn dish liquid.

Since these things are more flexible than the stock ones, perhaps one should use flexible bumper paints when painting them?  Anyone had any problems with cracking or separation due to flexing?

Where did you all get the paint? I know black is easy, but what about the other colors?

I just spoke with an automotive finish salesperson that attends my church. Fuzzy has the right formula. This guy said to add vinegar to the wash solution. He also said either 600 or 800 paper to scuff it up (you don't want it to rough as it increases the surface area of the piece which gives the release agent more area to move into.). I was told you want to get your adhesion primer on ASAP as the release agent will make its way to the surface if let it sit around.

Now the real question is, where do we get the paint?   Mike, I will be in Somerville tonight and back to NY tomorrow afternoon, no chance for a quick hello this unexpected trip.
