spring commpressor

made up this simple compressor so I wouldnt scratch up my newly painted springs. She pivots so I can just take a rubber mallet and tap the shock top, later luder

I guess they might be worried about strength, but looks like you've got at least 3/4" ply there and a good mating surface so I doubt the spring would punch through it. You're not going to damage the spring either with no metal to gouge into it. If you feel safe with it then carry on, lad...

Looks to be about 1" of surface left on the piece of wood, on the backside.  I'm not sure how many lbs of pressure a piece like that can take and I'm not sure how many lbs of pressure you are using to compresse the spring.  Just be careful.

It worked fine-take a look at luders new cb project-never done a honda before just a few harleys but Im starting to like the bike, Its alot easier to take apart and now I am going to see how many things I can reuse-blast paint...etc. And I will be asking a few ?- the new one how to get the gauges apart to redo touch up needle,repaint houseing etc....great site guys, by the way thats not alot of pressure just use 3/4 ply or maybe a piece of oak she wont split...later luder

Dont use sawn wood, plywood might be safer..

 or at the SOHC Picnic, we all recognized luder, by the imprint of his shock tool on his forehead... :o

I was able to put my new progressives on without a compressor.  Did I do something wrong?

Hmm, I just use the iron stomach method.  Place spring on shock, place bottom of shock on stomach (with a couple leather gloves underneath), pull on spring with both hands and have a friend slip the retainer clip in place.  Doesn't work with heavy duty springs.  ;-)
