A Small Project; A Honda CB92
« on: February 02, 2009, 01:50:39 PM »
Hi,
The job of getting my benly up and running has now begun. First I had the small job of giving the 125cc barrels a going over with the wire brush, they will later be re-bored and some new sleeves put in them, and some nice race spec pistons for them ;D.

On sunday we had it up on on the bench for an inspection, with it being sat in the back of the garage for 10yrs it needed it. Sam and my dad chris had to pull the 150cc motor out from when my dad rode it previously. Whilst I was making the old front rim shine (a little bit more than it did. lol).

The benly has now got a list of jobs;

1. strip down 150 motor as I will be using the bottom end of it with a close ratio gearbox.

2. do away with the headlight housing on the pressed steel forks.

3. build new engine up : new barrel on, cylinder head on, etc.

4. fit ign and wiring.

5. fit scitsu rev counter

6. paint the megaphones ;D (which I previously sanded down to remove rust) with high temp matt black paint.

7. Media blast parts; barrel, head, crankcases, various other parts.

This thread will see us through this small project. I will keep updating it from time to time.
And I will upload some pictures.

Ben :D

We now have all the engine apart!! absoloutely everyting apart.
everything that needs blasting is in a box. crankcases, barrels, heads. etc etc etc.

We have our own blast cabinet. it is going to run off my uncles compressor. But we have a problem the compressor is 20yr old and the belt is worn and is going to snap if we use it again. so we have searched everywhere. 5 days ago we ordered a belt from machine mart,
we gave the the measurments for the belt and they said they needed the part number, but with this being 20yr old we didnt know. so they took the measurments and we waited three days. when we recieved the belt it was about 2 inches shorter than the original, plonkers. so we moved the motor in its elongated holes but it just wouldnt have it. My dad is asking the maintenance guy for a belt as he has loads hung up for the works compressors.
Sorry guys, no gleaming benly parts yet!

BB - that sounds like a really neat project!  And, from your pictures so-far, it looks great!

I don't know about on the other side of the pond, but here in Canada a 150cc Honda was known by the model designation of 95, and the 92 designated a 125cc model.  The CB92 was an exceedingly rare and now much sought after model of 125cc displacement.  One in good condition is worth quite a few bob!

For your reference, here are some scans of brochures that show the CB92 model in the early 1960's, as well as the related line-ups of C92 and C95 models.  The "C" line was a touring design, and the "CB" line was a so-called sport line.  There was no CB95 marketed in North America, as the CB95 was a 150cc model made only in 1958 and '59.  I have a C95 in my collection and a CB77 that I've owned since 1966, also shown in this brochure.

BTW do you know what "Benly" means in Japanese?

Geez, I sure can sympathize with your belt dilemma. I've had to deal with odd ball belt sizes and when I worked in auto parts it was nice just to be able to run through the selection.

So, what's Benly mean in Japanese?
