wheel swaps
« on: October 15, 2005, 08:30:43 AM »
hey goodfellows, i was wondering if there was a source that told what wheels could be swapped with what bikes. I have a 72' cb750k2 and i'm trying to find either comstar or some other mag
to put on. I recently came across comstars from a 80' cb400 on ebay and was wondering if they would fit any help appreciated.....thanx

Comstars off a CB400 would be awfully small for your cb750. The 400 ran a 90/90-19 out front and a 100/90-18 in back.

Maybe a comstars off a CB650?

The K1-6 ran a 120/90-18 didn't it?. I have a set cb400 wheels at home, and those things look puny when sitting next to a CB750 wheel.

On the front? I'm talking on the back.

If he wants a matching set of rims the 100/90-18 is going to be to small to run on the back. But yeah you could maybe run the 400 wheel up front.

There were a ton of mags made back in the 70's for these bikes, lesters, morris, etc...
Most are expensive today.

For an easy swap get a 1977-78 supersport swingarm and complete front end. The front will bolt on using the 77-78 stems, but for the rear you will need a way to fab up the hangers for the master cylinder to operate the rear disc. You could try modifying a DOHC rear drum comstar but it is 16"  and I don't know what you will need to get chain line perfect.

Everything after that will require some fab work.
