ahhhhh it doesnt end
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:37:12 PM »
so i got the bike running and running fine it seems. well today i come in the house and it smells like so much gas. I go in the garage and sure enough there is a sh** ton on the garage floor. the carbs are now leaking gas out of the over flow. i know this is prolly float height adjustment so i am gonna tackle that first. I also think i have some leaking coming from the screws coming at the bottom of the bowl and also the bowl gaskets this blows. Anyone out there just have a set of great carbs just laying around haha?

How clean is your tank?  Could a chunk of gunk have gotten into the needle, holding it open?  Try draining the bowls, then tap the bowls with the butt of a screwdriver as you refill them.  Maybe you'll knock the crap loose.

Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

i dont think it could be anything in the tank because i just por15'd it but i will also try that. gonna put some sea foam in the tank too.

Also on the fiche it doesnt look like you can buy just the washer that goes in with the screw at the bottom of the float bowl, does anyone know anything about these. i dont need new bowls just those screws and washer

Forget the washer question i was looking at the wrong number i noticed

I highly recommend getting used to using your fuel valve.

On my old F1, 90% of the time I was fine if I left it on. That last 10% of the time, though, it made me not want to turn on the light in the garage for fear of sparks in that fumey atmosphere...

Mine did exactly the same thing.  Turns out the fuel petcock keeps putting fuel to the carbs.  The "off" position is simply a recommendation to it.  I figure that rubber ring inside it is worn.  I'll get to it some day soon.  For now, I disconnect the fuel line and have another fuel line with seal all plugging the end.

If you routinely park on the sidestand, make turning off the petcock part of your routine for parking in the garage.

My 77 550 STILL pees on the floor occasionally.  And, this is almost guaranteed when the tank has just been filled.

I still forget, sometimes.  Mostly when the routine is broken.  ::)

Yep, I got tired of that aromatic smell wafting into my living room (and I changed the float valves!). When it sits for any amount of time I just turn it to off, saves on wasted petrol.

i picked up some neoprene washers today at home depot and gonna try those out on the petcock first then i am gonna tackle trying to fix the needle problems on my leaking carbs. Also i got some o-rings from there and gonna try those out on the float bowl drain screw, dont know if they are fuel resistant but they will work till i find some more im sure (if they are the right size that is)

ok so i got the carb floats to stop leaking for the most part, now the final thing i need is float bowl gaskets or o-rings because mine are flat and it looks like there is fluid coming from there just a hair though.
