Topic: "throttle link arm " cracked.....

I see that the cast throttle link arm, Pg 114, Clymers, ill.20, #1, is cracked, no doubt due to overtightening by PO. Thats why the two banks of carbs slides are differently set as far a hieght when closed goes. I think- are they keyed?
To adjust the slide hieght to stay i think I need to replace this arm. Dont think JB Weld would fix it, Something tells me its unobtanium....any ideas/sources? Cash to buy uncracked example- or two, as the other one shows a hairline crack with the magnifyer....cracked ones must be common. What do you chaps do?? I cant weld Al.......

Duh, sorry, man. Its a'73 500/550. Keihin slide carbs.
The throttle link arm, as the text calls it, engages the 2 carbs slide linkage, 4 carbs, theres two of them. they are on the long throttle shaft, & have a pinch bolt that holds them in place. Overtighten the bolt, & it will crack.....

jb weld should hold it, just make sure you dont move or touch it at all for 24 hours

I couldnt figure out how to post a pic in a million years...Im not, as I said, very familiar with Japanese bikes. Its a 73, the carbs are keihin, throttle slide, not CV. On the zerox factory shop manual, page 63, illus. #10, ("insert coil spring B and tighten it w/ the cap nut") the guys LH thumb is pressed against the part in question. Its a 500, according to the side panel, but also referred to as a 550. I cant tell you what edition of manual it is, I believe she ordere it off this site when she first got the ike.....
Im not entirely sure , given the way the force is applied, JB Weld is the tool for the job, but thats what Ill do if I cant find replacements......

I not sure JB is capable of holding on an actual clamping piece, but it can be pretty strong.

The pic in the manual, is there also an exploded view? just saying as there are usually several versions of any manual for every model, so a page number only helps with that specific version.

Some go online to parts vendors and reference to their exploded views, by number..

Mutt...  Alot of guys thought they couldn't post pics... until they were shown how.  Not be critical, but this business of citing pages in books is of limited value.  There are lots of helpful folks on here, but pinning your hopes on them owning a copy of the book you are referencing thins out the field too much. 

Go to www.photobucket.com  and register it is free and it is no more difficult to do than the process you went thru to get on this site.  Once you are setup on photobucket, it is a simple matter of clicking the "browse" button on the screen and directing it to where you have the pic stored on your computer.  You then click a button to "Upload" the pic.  Once you have done this, the pic can very easily be inserted into you posts.  The FAQs address how, or I would be happy to stick with you and get you comfortable with the process.  I repeat. VERY EASY.

If you don't have access to a digital cam, that is a different problem.  Get one.  It will be the most useful tool in your garage if you plan on utilizing this forum to get help with working on your bike.

Well, thanks, but.....Im just not computer savvy at all. For me, photobucket is an imprenetrable thicket of baffle.
Tried any number of times. Maybe its the computer.
I figured Clymers or the factory shop manual wouldnt be an obscure text here.....
Well, anyway. progress is being made on her machine. Im undoing a LOT of PO's screwups.
Well, its not like I havent fallen back on my own seat of the pants repairs before. Im just trying to avoid reinventing the wheel.....

Its not an obscure text.. but WHAT version do you have?

Look in the front, it should say, what color is the bike on the cover.

Some of us are trying to help, I may have parts to sell, but only have a number off the carb. Can you read the number of that set
 should be on a outer carb or connecter plate.

Ok, thx, Old Timer. Getting a bright light, my own old timer eyes pic out "6278" stamped on the carbs, on the flange where they bolt up to the rather sturdy connecting plate, which has KL and a single curved line- a ideogram?- the only marking I can see stamped into it.
The shop manual zerox has no publication info page.The Clymers is the 21st ! printing- I see what you mean. It says M332 on the upper RH corner of the cover, the bike is some sort of ghastly yellow/green with a back panel in the tank, outlined in twin white pinstripes. On its ctrstand on concrete, in front of water.
"CB 350-550 sohc 4's, 71-78"

I am not sure what these are from. left carb is marked 022A

on the rack it has an A enclosed in a box follwed by ME then a 7 with a slash thru it..

 Maybe they are off something else?

thx for lookin, OT....Ive found thereare a couple of oriental bike junkyards, im gonna go look there. If not, ill lure some 8 year old w/ a candy bar & make the little creature post a pic......

I just found out they are 71-73 500, but I have to decide of I should part them out.

 I will look at the piece see if it is easy to make..
