Lowering Blocks ?
« on: February 16, 2009, 11:39:42 AM »
Hey guys, Im considering using lowering blocks for my rear shocks. I know a few guys on here have them or have had them in the past. Does anyone have any information on where i can get them, pictures of a bike with them installed, and advise about using them (like do or dont) thanks for the help guys.

you can get them from mc enterprises for $60 us. they stiffen the ride and make it hard to use center stand as they drop the rear of the bike 2" but i enjoy having them just for the look of the stance it gives the bike.i posted pics of my bike under the topic tank and side covers just a while ago and you should be able to see them on there.

My bike currently has blocks on the rear, they look cool, but the ride is not the best so i am going to be taking them off and putting them up for sale while looking for short shocks.

I'm looking to drop the back of my bike too. I was looking at the blocks also. But for as far as it kicks back the bottom of the shock it doesn't give the shock a chance to work. Yea i'm bobbing my bike but it's got to be comfortable. For I think only 20 bucks more then the blocks you can get the drop shocks from cyce x and enjoy the ride.

Would or  could you lower the rear with the blocks with stock front end stance?

I found some new 70's stock on e-bay for around $25 with shipping.  Definitely help with the shorter of inseam and looks very cool and low.  Ride did suffer some and left hand turns drag the center stand if not careful.  I actually had to drill out the inside of the bushings that came with the blocks for the bolt to got through.  I may take them off since I found a stock seat and see how the total setup is now.  I wouldn't pay too much for them; the $60 sounded a little high to me.

From what I have read on the forum, you gain stability but cornering will not be as quick as stock.  No one, that I have noticed, has complained about that so it must not be a big issue.

If you want to keep it leveled, drop the front the as much as you do the back.  Cornering will be affected here but in a different way, you loose some angle.  But then, how far are you going to lean it?

So far, I am 3" down front and back.  Going past 2" is where the real work comes in and $$$, if you do it right (my idea of right).  Up to about 2" down is relatively easy.

you can get lowering shocks for around 99 dollars. alot safer and better damping action from the shocks that way.

If you decide to get shocks and you have a 750, you might consider a kickstand off of a 500/550.  They are shorter.

The bike will still stand on the stock kickstand, it will just be standing straight up.  If I turned my bars to the right, the bike would want to fall over.
