In me buying and owning a bike in the States, I'm in the UK ?

Please tell me all the ins and out of ownership, Title, insurance, what I have to go through each year (Road worthy test ect)

Sam. ;)

It varies from state to state Sam but I'd think it wouldn't be a big deal especially if you had a sohc brother...or sister stateside help you out if need be. I know it's possible to own, register and insure a bike in Massachusetts if you aren't a US citizen. You do need to have an inspection done once a year but anybody can take it in for the inspection. Any registry or insurance business can be done through the mail or over the internet.

Thanks for that Mick, the bike will end up there with MR Reick so it's just a matter of getting it there if I can buy it.

I called the guy on the 750A but it went straight to voicemail and he never called back.
I will give him a call tomorrow.
If he calls back, Ed (siter81) and I will go look at it tomorrow evening.

Sam, I just saw this thread...if this is coming to Boston and you need a rider to get it to Boston....then Ill ride it  ;D Just get me down there and Ill do the rest  ;) Looks like a great bike and if you dont need those sexy Shoei cases Ill take them off your hands  ;D

Let me know if you need a rider!

Only 1,339 mi or about 21 hours 50 mins according to Google  ;D...meaning it will take around 2-3 days on the bike.

As far as title, registration and the like goes as long as the guy has the title/registration we can register it here in Mass. If you need an address to do this you can use mine although I am guessing Mike would offer the same.

cheers
Andy

Sam,

It’s just after 11 am here in Tampa. and I just got off the Phone with Ron the owner.
I have an Appointment to look at the bike after I get off work at 5 pm.
Ed is going with me. The bike is in New Port Richie, Just about an hours drive north of where I work.
He just relisted it on Craig’s list and it looks like the price has been reduced.

Ed and I will give it a good going over. Is there anything in particular that you want us to look at?

Sam. ;)

There has to be a way around that Sam. Could you paypal the money to Peter or Ed? Then they could pay cash for it? If that doesn't work out I saw a 750A on CL in Connecticut that might be worth checking out. No pics and the price was too high($2,000) but they might come down after they realize that they're asking too much. I see them periodically on CL in the New England region too. Should we be looking out for one for you?

Sam,

OK, I'm home now. The Motorcycle was pretty nice. There were a couple of minor issues but nothing I would consider a deal breaker. It was very clean and it started right up and ran very smoothly. The issues, I shined a light into the tank and it looked pretty clean but there was a minor amount of rust, Nothing that I consider bad. I would probably try to clean it with sea foam or something but it was there. The gas gauge did not work. The idle was a little high, but maybe an Automatic needs a high idle. The high beam indicator did not work, The high beam did but not the indicator. and there was a small rust hole at very back inside edge of the muffler.
The tires both looked good with good tread and no dry rot. There were no tears in the seat and the paint was adequate but not original. It has the aluminum DID rims that are in good condition and no noticeable corrosion on the spokes. It has definitely been kept in a garage all its life. The chain was tight but could use a cleaning and lube. The chrome was very nice. Interesting note, The front fender is from a 75 gl1000.

Definitely worth the money and in good shape for a 33 year old motorcycle.

He did not let us drive it but he did run it and put it in gear and will let us drive it if we have cash in hand.

He does not deal in anything but cash and he has a clear title.
