'76 and earlier front brake piston spec question.
« on: March 04, 2009, 11:01:53 PM »
As usual I ended up tossing an old piston, not thinking I'd need it. Ugh.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could measure the O.D. and length of the piston for me? I was also wondering if the piston cap (little aluminum piece the goes in the end of the piston) was necessary or can I skip it? I could buy one, but I have a chunk of stainless round bar that is yerning to be turned down.

Thanks...

You'll need the cap, or something that will take up the distance. Otherwise, the piston will cock in the bore and won't release the pad after applying the brake. Don't ask me how I know this, 'cuz I won't tell you...  ::)

I might (don't know for sure) have one in my big box of miscellaneous pieces for the Hondaman Specials. If I remember, and have one, I'll measure one this weekend.

Hey guys, just wondering if someone out there could measure a piston for me. I need the outer diameter and the length of the piston (minus the aluminum cap). And if they have the cap, how thick is it ? (from the piston surface, out)

Thanks much..
Pete

Not tricky you just need one in bits! From memory the diameter is 1 1/2 inch but no idea of length

Yeah, just need the sizes. I'm going to make a couple at work, but I lost the old one I had.  :(

I remember measuring one and deciding that if the stainless bar was exactly 1 1/2 inch and unmarked it would not need turning but thats all i can tell you
