Belt drive????

Has anyone ever converted a CB to belt drive?
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

;) Hardley's can get away with using a belt even at full throttle, but I doubt one of our CB's would be drivable without shredding it to pieces. I don't know about anyone else, but I would hate having to go easy on the twist grip.

The easiest way is to convert to Harley. Just go buy one! You know you want to. ;D

Can't deny those are good and valid reasons, probably better than mine for not liking them. They take away something from the overall aesthetics, but then I've been told more than once all my taste is in my mouth.  ;D

i dont think our bikes would hurt a belt drive, you have to remember these bikes dont have a lot of low end torque and torque is what sheds belts and breaks chains

I think the best reason to switch to a belt drive is that if/when the belt broke it wouldnt knock a hole in the case...

seems like it would require a modified swingarm, to accept a belt and notched pulley assembly that was a least an inch wide...

Actually a CB would be a good candidate for a belt drive. Keep in mind if you looking for maximum HP on the rear wheel
a belt drive is simpley too ineffecient. Harley's / cruisers that put out 50 to 70 HP will work fine with belt if you not interested in
maximum performance. You have to ask your self. Why have the Daytona bikes never adapted belt drives. The answer is simple.
For a bikes that produces 150 hp plus the belt would need to be 18 inches wide to transfere the power as effecient as a chain.
You will never see a belt on a performance bike. You just loose too much.

A belt is out out the question on my Kawasaki 1200R ZRX... I demand max hp.. On the CB 550. If I could find one at a good price
I would buy it.

I think a belt drive made out of recycled rubbers might be too stretchy.

Hmmmnnnn, the harley V Rod produces about 115 BHP at the rear wheel, and is belt driven. A CB750 produces about 40-50 Bhp at the rear wheel. (the 67 Bhp oft quoted is at the crank) Twist away mate, I think you're safe! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry our stock one (apart from carbs and pipes) puts out 60 at the rear end.
If you have one that only puts out 40 to 50, the back brake is seized on, the chain is rusted to fcuk, all the pistons have holes in them and you are running it on XXXX ;D ;D ;D ;D

I put this same question on the greenspun board years back, listed all of the same good reasons to consider a belt drive and I got bashed.  This group's come a long way since then......

would you need a different swingarm after all, since the drive side spacer is 25-35mm  ???

I'm sorry to see that you're still smarting from that "bashing" Al, I remember some discussion about the same subject awhile ago, although I'm not sure if it was your post that I recall.

I guess the critical clearance is that between the two pulleys and the frame, then the clearance between the belt and the tire. Another consideration is the method of maintaining belt tension over bumps, you'd probably need to fit a belt tensioner to prevent the "teeth" of the belt from damage.

These are all critical considerations, and I suspect that is why someone hasn't already done it. Nonetheless, if someone is building a "ground up" special, be it a chop or a racer with a frame suitable for belt drive, I've no doubt that a belt could handle the power output, even from a race engine. Cheers, Terry.

I did not think about pivot angle for the swing arm.  A tensioner would be a pain.  I guess I will get louder pipes and just run her till she pops.  I hate engine/ drivetrain noises, makes me want to fix something.

G'Day Terry, are you getting much drivetrain noise now? It could just be that you need a new chain and sprockets mate, a worn out chain and sprockets can be pretty noisy, but I don't notice drivetrain noise generally?

Loud pipes are always good though, you wanna hear the "drag pipes" on my K1, the baffles rotted out years ago, and I need to make some more, but I keep putting it off because I really like their "bark", ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was wondering how many people are interested in removing the swing arm whenever they have to change a belt.  Not me.
