Rear sprocket '78 750F
« on: October 16, 2005, 07:59:07 PM »
I went to change my chain and sprockets today and found a difference in thickness between the new and old rear sprockets. When I pulled the new sprocket out of it's packing I noticed that it's relieved on the back. The old sprocket measures .341 inches thick while the new one is .356 at the outside but .305 where it mounts. The new sprocket would move the center line of the sprocket in towards the wheel. Neither of the sprockets is Honda. At this point I don't know if either sprocket is right. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

That might cause problems. My idea is that the new sprocket being wider at the top is meant for O-ring chains. If you do not use an oring, then the teeth may be too wide and wear the chain very fast. With the mounting point being thinner, the chain may not align very well also accelerating wear. I dont think that will be that huge a problem since the linked nature of chains should allow for some offset. the tooth width I think might be the biggest problem. Depends on you chain I suppose.
