Missing parts to a CB500 Petcock (dual out nipples.)
« on: March 19, 2009, 12:01:23 PM »
Hey team,

It seems that the PO YANKED out the gas lines from the petcock and it took the nipples with it. I don't have those hoses unfortunately.

Here's my petcock and the holes.

Is there something I could use to replace the cracked inlet hose?

Is there somewhere out there people have found replacement nipples? What else could I use?

Thanks!

Er
No
No
Dont think there is

I think a new petcock is called for
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

There's gotta be something you can do. A good plumbing or aquarium store would probably have miniture fittings with barbs on one end, threads on the other. Maybe you could drill the hole out a bit, tap it, and screw into the housing. Or just drill and friction-press in a piece of copper tubing.

I know, I'm feeling something like a plumbing store or that little display wall at home depot for the barbed fittings, and hopefully just tap/thread them in. Come to think of it they have some brass hoses as well.

2 kweztions.

Is brass ok to put in the tank?

Do you think a threaded nipple will cause any problems now that there wouldn't be anything shuved far up the petcock?

You can "McGiver" it but it will much easier to just purchase a new one from either Honda or Z1 Enterprises.

That sucks! I was looking for another petcock a while back & a guy on here sent some picks of one he used that he put together with parts from Lowes or HomeDepot. If you dont want to spend the coin on a fresh one that might work.

Maybe these?

Or just a brass one:

The only thing I worry about is having enough wall strength left after i tap them in, as most of them are a little large on the thread size. I'll have to take it to home depot and check it out.

thanks for the heads up guys, I'll post pics when I'm done.e

That fuel tap (pet cock ??) is dead anyway so you may as well try one of these.

Let us know what happens.

Best case - great new item for "Tricks & Tips"
Worst case - buy a new one!

Right on! I'll be stopping by home depot tomorrow, I don't see any reason we can't resurrect it! I consider it my own type of customizing, you know?

I'm denting and scratching my tank tonight! (hopefully. Or I might do carbs.) Got off work early and the GF is already asleep, so it's free time.
