Winterize and oil

hello!

After a summer with only 150 km (not even had a refill at the gas station), would you change the oil on a CB400F? The oil only has a total of about 1000km on it since last change.. What do you think?

i would wait and do it next spring.but as little as you rode it,did it ever have time to get good and warm?that would matter too.

Well, to be fair, it wasn't a bunch of tiny trips, it rather very few longer trips. This summer two trips, where the last one was 50 km. So wouldn't that be enough to properly heat up the machine and beat the condensation?

Tell you what, send the bike to me. I will ride it and keep it in top shape so it will be ready for you next spring  ;D

but far enough to heatup the sucker, wouldn't you say?

Not that much. Next time you make a 50 km trip, when you stop check the pipe temperature. Of course the headers will be hot, but I bet you can keep your hand on the end of the pipes. Well, the CB400 have a 4:1, but at least in my CB750 they don't usually get that hot. Add a humid weather and you have a recipe for rust pie!!!

P.S. I wouldn't care about the oil. Many of the wrenchheads on this forum are very sensitive on the subject, and will put fresh oil before the winter. Of course it will make no harm, but it doesn't mean used oil will do harm either. Unless your bike is almost due for oil change, I would keep it in. Contrary to many people, I don't enjoy maintenance tasks like oil changes so I do the strictly necessary changes.

I would go with the manual. Do the regular oil changes and thats it. As raul said, some are very touchy about this. They put in new oil for storage then change it AGAIN before riding in the spring. NOT needed at all!

50K is plenty to warm the engine up fully even 10k will do that. As for the exhaust, I could ride all day long and still be able to put my hand on the end of the pipe. So I dont know about that idea.
