Front wheel Studs
« on: March 25, 2009, 07:13:34 PM »
Hi, One of the studs that holds the my front wheel on is stripped a bit. I know I could just tap it and it would be find but I figrured since studs are so cheap I would just get a new one. How do I get the old one out and will the fork oil stay in? If the fork will leak out I guess it would just be easier to tap..

Thanks Dan

I don't think the oil will leak out.....the stud hole in the fork doesn't penetrate where the oil is.

If its stripped getting it out could be challenging.

I assume you wanna do it on the bike?

Maybe a small pipe wrench will turn it out

Is there enough thread left at the top of the stud to get two nuts on there.  If so try that and just unscrew it from the fork with a wrench.

The part that's stripped is the outside part which the nut goes on to. It is just striped on the outter part you can fit just the nut on, but you can't with the washers on too. The inside thred which goes into the forks is fine.
