cb550 starter switch...
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:19:36 PM »
Hello all,
My 75 550f's starter recently stopped working, not the end of the world but, even more recently the headlight also stopped working. I'm thinking its the starter switch (as I've heard). Anybody have experience with this? I've searched the forum already but am unable to find any info on bypassing the switch, or finding a replacement. Any info would be appreciated!  :)  Noah

Your first step should probably be testing the switch - you can do this pretty easily with a multimeter. It's also possible that the contacts inside your right hand control are dirty and some aerosol electrical contact cleaner would clean them right up.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try in the morning, however the starter button actually is loose and sticking out further than is supposed to (make sence?)
Hopefully I'll be able to clean it up and make due, but does anybody supply a new stitch?

It looks like BikeBandit has them for $100 and they appear to be going for $95-$110 on eBay.

my starter switch just shat the bed,  from a quick search it doesn't seem possible to buy a replacement starter switch without buying the entire right hand control assembly for $100.  anyone have a fix for this?   I wired in the headlight so it still comes on with the ignition but it'd be nice to have the starter working for those hard starting days.

I'd save for the switch....anyway, don't know your bike but a momentary switch ( normally OFF ) connected between  Black and Yellow/red ( most 750's ) will operate the starter....headlight would need an off switch too while starting, otherwise too hard on the battery with h/l and starter engaged....
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

My CB200 didn't have a starter switch so I rigged up a toggle switch and a momentary push button to replace it. This has the added benefit of being able to turn your headlight off if you'd like.
