I got my Carbtune while I was out last week.  I'll admit that I was worried I wasted my money after reading an article that said if your bike idled ok, you were already in sync or probably close (pg 66 of October 2006 issue of classic bike mag).  Before I left last week, I determined I had no continuity between the yellow wires to my stator coil.  I was about to change it out with another one but when I looked at it, one of the yellow wires was completely disconnected.   I cleaned up all the connectors and had about 15 volts at 4000 rpms.

I took a ride and found I was still running rich.  I had a big flat spot at about 1/4 throttle.  I was hoping the charging problem somehow had something to do with it.  Not so.  So I dropped all the needles to the lowest position and went for another ride.  The bike ran much better.  I could feel just a hint of hesitiation still at times but the plugs stayed clean (At least 1 and 4, I held off checking the other two.

Now for the sync.  My bike idled great before; rock steady at about 1200 rpm. But look at the carbtune pictures, only two of them were even.  I did the best I could getting them close, they go kind of haywire if you aren't real careful.  Took another ride and had no hesitation at all.  The bike runs great but I'm not getting my hopes up yet until I ride it further.

And on that note, I love the carbtune.  I'm going to do my other 350 tomorrow.  I did not like the nylon adapters though.  You'll get third degree burns trying to get them in 2 and 3.  I planned on that and picked up a set of brass ones when I bought it.  I actually used nylon ones on 1,4 and brass on 2 and 3.

Isn't it a fab feeling when you get the last carb tweaked and the idle settles into a rhythm like you've never heard before !
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Not only that but I ran it up to 9000 RPMs on that last ride too.  I just can't get over how well it ran.  No miss, no hesitation, no nothing.  I want to ride it a little farther before I call this a total success though...

Just as a thought, although it will be slightly more work... take off the tank when you do the tune. Just prop it up on a table or something that is higher so you get a good gravity feed and keep a longer piece of gas line around to connect to the carb. You can get at 2 and 3 from the top and you won't be burning your hands on it while running.

Good going on finding the charging problem. It's nice when it's an easy and FREE fix. Not much is free on these older bikes and usually hard or impossible to find parts. Synching the carbs, as I've recently found out, takes a delicate touch and perseverence of going back to each one, over and over until they even out with, in our case, #2. We thought our carbs were pretty decent but were having problems with surges or flat spots on throttle. Mlinder and the guys showed us how to tune them and what a difference it made. It's like a totally different bike now. I had just resigned to the thought that it ran like that cuz of it's age. What a cool, smooth ride these old Hondas have.  ;D
1969 CL350 Scrambler... almost done!!! Well, until something else goes wrong. :)
2006 HD 883 Sportster, stock. No use changing it, it's still gonna be a Harley.

I actually had the whole tank off when I tried it.  I had a hard time actually threading them in.  I tried using a piece of tubing on the end of them to create more distance between the engine and my hands but no luck.  Tube and brass worked fine.  Glad I thought to order them, I just don't have the patience I guess..

I finally broke down and got one.  The exchange rate put this at about $94 total.
