rookie carb question
« on: October 21, 2005, 12:47:56 PM »
I have disassembled and cleaned the carbs on my 74 SOHC.  When reassembling does the air screw spring in the throttle valve slip beneath the needle clip plate or is it allowed to slide freely on the throttle rod?

I thought I laid things out nicely but missed this detail.

morning,

check the FAQ's about the carbs...manuals I believe can be downloaded as well which would address many if not all questions about rebuilding your carbs properly.

Tried checking out the online manuals with no luck..  my shop manual doesn't have this level of detail either...  I'll try to rephrase my description of the dilema..  when unsctrewing the top of the carb there is a rod about 4 inches long that runs throught the center of the throttle body.  A small spring about 1/2 inch slides up and down the rod when the carbs are disassembled... at the bottom of the throtle body there are two screws attaching  U shaped clip to the throttle body...  What I can't seem to figure out when reassembling the carbs is, should I slide this 1/2 inch spring to the end of the rod and slip it into the U shaped clip or should the spring be allowed to move freely up and down the rod?

You guys are my last chance before I try my luck at the local dealer. Thanks for any help that you might give.

...so I take it you figured out that the spring is in there to hold the end of the rod tightly in the u-shaped clip...?
