what handlebars should I use?
« on: April 01, 2009, 03:03:12 PM »
Hey everyone,as I gloated about my new Rickman full fairing,I forgot to inquire about which bars to use.I dont want to use clip ons and I will use clubmans if I must.I really want to use Norman Hyde M bars but they are sold out all over, even norman hyde is sold out.Any suggestions?do drag bars hold the wrists at a wierd/bad angle?I have Daytona bars on my bike now and they are a lil too high for the fairing.I have seen people flip bars upside down to get a similar effect, anyone?Oh yeah, its for my 73 750.

Try superbike bars.  They look like the bars from a BMW 90S from the 70's.  I had one on my CB550 in the 70's and I thought they worked well for me.  Rear sets would have been even better.

How much clearance do you need?  I'd measure the rise on what you've got and go from there.  I'd agree that superbike bars are pretty comfortable, if they'll fit into the fairing.  They get you leaning into the wind a bit, but you're not bent over.

just an idea i've seen used before... flip those handlebars over, that you've already got, and they're basically clubman/drag bars.

if they are stockers... you'll have to deal w/ wiring outside the bars instead of in... not like that wasn't an issue already though.

They are not,I took off the stock bars which were taller, and I fed the wires through the new ones.I like these bars but they will not work unfortunately.Quite the pain in the A$$.

Bart, I think with all of the problems you're having with these bars, you're going to have to sell the fairing to me...I'll double your money next time I'm up there... ;) seriously though, I've got a set of Dunstall clipons that you may be interested in....

These are superbike bars:

and these are Euro bars...

and comparison of the two....they both look lower than your current bars

But what you really need are Tomesselli bars...much better angle than clubmans and not severe on your wrists at all....

cheers

Small hijack, has anyone tried superbike bars with rear sets ? I have always used superbike bars but with standard pegs {which sit a bit too far forward for me} so i was just wondering..?

I will try to flip them, then I will try superbike bars.I want to go as high as I can without interfering with the fairing.did I mention It now matches the original paint.Looks awesome,so much metal flake it reminds me of a carnival ride.Hey Cafe750,next time you are in the 'ham look me up,I would love to check out those clip ons.Sunday looks like a good day for riding if you want to meet half way even.PM me.Or come up to casa.

Mick

I run daytona bars with rearsets and I have noticed that rides over 45-60 minutes can put a little stress on the wrists.  A lower set (euros or superbike) would probably be a pretty good match for use with rearsets.
