tach seal replacement
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:08:16 AM »
I have a 1976 CB750K. It's leaking oil around the tach gear. I assume it's the tach seal that needs replacing. I can't seem to find the part on any of the parts diagrams to get a part number. Can anyone tell me where in the diagrams to look? I've found others have posted just the part number, 91211-286-003, but I'd like to see for myself what it looks like and where it goes, etc.

Thanks.
Barry

I didn't have a lot of luck finding one either. I ended up buying one on ebay, but had to pay $6 or so for shipping and the douche sent it in a tiny envelope with 4 stamps on it. The only place I found them where in whole oil seal kits for $35.

It's no. 35 in the parts fiche segment below. (I just took screen capture of the whole diagram). There's also an o-ring, no. 40. Maybe wise to replace both? Don't know but maybe somebody could comment on that...

no. 35: 91256-096-651  (replaces 91211-286-003)
no. 40: 91310-426-000  (replaces 91309-035-000)

There is a thread floating around here the #91256-425-003 is a better fit and has stopped some leaks where the other numbers did not.  I just picked up a spare from my dealer for under $4.

Mohams picture is a 550 NOT a 750, try part number 13 in the parts diagram for head cover at

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Wow. My bad, don't know how I got on the 550 from there....Anyway, I think the pic below is correct.

No. 13, in the fiche, right?

91256-096-651  (replaces 91211-286-003)

Funny that it is apparently the same part...even when I'm wrong, I'm right!
