I went through Dairyland Insurance and got a 1-year policy for $80.  My driving history even includes a DUI just over two years ago (haven't drank and drove since).  Coverage is the state minimum (for Kentucky) with a separate endorsement for pedestrians.  I ride through a park that I live next to quite often and was concerned about taking out a jogger.  My only incident has been a bicyclist pulling up on the side of me and falling over on me while I was stopped at a stop sign adjusting my glasses.

My policy is for a year. I just called and verified it. I got mature rider and MSF course discounts.

It was running a bit rich that day.  The fumes may have choked him.

Dairyland is only $18.00 per year liability on the Honda.  This is with multiple bike and the discount that comes with having the policy over 1 year.  First year was something like $36.00.  Liability on the Harley is a little more - maybe because it is heavier and newer?

And replacement parts will cost you an arm and a leg.

After you have an accident, you will realize that premium cost is not all that important as you may think. It is the policy options and the claims handling that really counts. I make sure that all my bikes are insured for replacement cost and all personal losses are covered too. I have Progressive on 3 bikes, car, and covered bike trailer. So far, they have been very good to me. I will update as this accident claim on my magna is processed.

There is a very good chance that if I crash that I won't be worrying about repair costs.  I like my $18 per year insurance cost.

Kit and I are on 1 policy, both of us insured for all the bikes. Ours is around $225 (I think??) for 2 bikes for a year through Progressive. Her old CB650 is more than my Harley to insure.  ??? We are both named on each bike so we can ride either one and not be violating coverage. (if you violate coverage, they won't pay a cent and will jack your rates) Same with the cars. We get the MSF discount but since we live near Portland, the bicycle and motorcycle theft capital of OR, our premium is a little higher than I thought it would be. We garage them at home and work now so maybe I'll go see if we can get a discount on that too. Good tip.

I do insure them (us) well. I guess I could back off on some of the options but I've been on the receiving end of a stupid cager who blew through me in the past. I wish to this day I had better coverage cuz he had none. I footed the bill for hospital(luckily work insurance kicked in to help), bike, lost wages, everything. (I was in casts for 2.5 years and tons of surgery) The very least of the bill is going to be the bike, if you end up hurt at all. A good rule of thumb is to insure yourself, not the bike.

If you read the fine print, that $18 probably doesn't cover the actual bike or you, the rider. It may cover the other guy or a passenger. That is usually the state bare minimum.

Btw, the guy who hit me while playing chicken with his buddies??... He got a fine for running a stop sign. He was not required or responsible to pay any of my bills when it happened because he didn't have insurance. (he wasn't responsible to even get out to help me. he sat in his car.)

1969 CL350 Scrambler... almost done!!! Well, until something else goes wrong. :)
2006 HD 883 Sportster, stock. No use changing it, it's still gonna be a Harley.
