raised white letter tires? do they still make them?
« on: May 17, 2009, 03:57:50 PM »
looking for raised white letter tires for my 1978 cb750a (hondamatic/two stage rocket ha!) does anyone still make these tires? they must, I see them on new cafe projects all the time? anyone point me to a site where they sell them? and a good site to figure out what size my (rare) 78 cb750a can take.

thanks guys!

Well if you can't find raised white letter tires, you can get yourself a white paint 'pen' for just a few dollars at most craft stores, and 'whiten' the raised black letters on any blackwall tire.  This route will also give you a better range of tires to choose from.

Good luck.

I tried those. worked ok. but it never came close to the gleaming white of a real raised white letter tire, after hitting it with a white wall cleaner then some tire foam. and I also found the more surface area of the lettering the less consistant of the pen. where are all these people with the cafe projects getting these raised letter tires? I can't find them anywhere? must be a site?
I found this rare gem in a barn, new as 1978. no joke. thanks for any suggestions.

Have a look for Dunlop 491 Elite II Touring, K525, F11 or K627, and Bridgestone Spitfire. Have a look at JC Whitney even.
Good luck.

I was just tire shopping last week.
I think Spitfires have been discontinued. Dealer stock seems to be depleted - especially rears.

thanks for the info. guess the pen on technique is the way they must be doing the letters on these cafe bike projects?

This depends on the size of your rear wheel.  I wanted raised white letters too.  The best, IMO, are the Bridgestone Spitfires.

Here's the deal-  16" are available....no problem.  17" are not....nowhere, nohow.  I have a '78F; and had to go blackwall.  The fronts should be no problem.  Google "bridgestone spitfire"......maybe bikebandit has them. Can't remember now.

I dunno if Bridgestone Spitfire S11 is the same tire you're talking about, it doesn't seem like it's a raised white letter tire, but Dennis Kirk has them in a whole bunch of sizes including 17" and 18" in stock.

Good luck.

The Spitfire S11 came in black and with RWL
You can still find the black pretty easily but RWL is now scarce - especially 120/90-18"

i used a hot tires paint pen for my cafe project, it was tedious and time consuming. my next tires are coming from Coker, firestone repros. they are awesome.
