We just cant get away from this K8 envy can we! I am not even sure any place other than david silver or that other euro site have new ones. I think however that stators from K1 on up were the same.

I have to buy a multimeter...the stator is ok...but I am not charging...bike runs great when battery is charged and in TX you can ride in the daytime with the headlight off...so I can ride for awhile at total loss but who the hell wants to do that...

Anywho...I am just about through with fixing all the crap that the hillbillies I bought it from did to it...which was not alot really but what they did fix they fixed wrong...

...it is amasing how much a hillbilly can mess up on a machine with a pair of wire strippers and some black tape...and there is a difference between a red-neck and a hillbilly...a big difference.

i have never delt with charging systems before so I really dont know what I am doing but I do have the honda shop manual for the K8 and I am not totally retarded...then again I did buy a bike that is only 3 years younger than me...  ::)

I am reading all the posts for the chore ahead but any advice would be nice...

Yes get a multimeter.
Do your testing with a fully charged battery.

Remember, that with the bike's electrical load, the Alternator can't overcome this AND charge the battery until the engine revs past 2-3K RPM.
With the stock regulator, you have a two mode alternator.  Full capacity (dependant on RPM) and reduced capacity when the battery voltage gets to 14.5 volts, or thereabouts.  You can jumper out the regulator for short test periods without damaging the battery. (If you think you need to isolate that component as a fault contributor.)
A full battery without load should read close to 13.2V.
Electric start will quickly suck down the battery to less than full charge.
Don't disconnect the battery while the engine is running.  This puts added stress on the rectifier diodes.  If your meter injects enough voltage to make the diodes conduct (about .7 volts), they should read low resistance with one polarity of the probes, and high resistance with the opposite polarity of the probes.  Test all six diodes.

Good luck,

Generally testing is not to hard as long as you test at the right spots. I must have a good charginy system as I could idle all day at 2000 and never run dead. I have idled for 30 minutes without revving the engine or putting a charger on my battery.  I have never boiled a battery either.

Normal problems is bad connectors followed by sticky regulator.
