Swing Arm Dent?

Hi,

I've been sanding off any surface rust I could find on my frame, and patching it up with primer...to cut a long story short I'll skip the explanation...

Anyway, for some reason I just noticed that there is a dent on the right hand side of the swing arm....
This may sound silly, but is that supposed to be there?

My 400f has a dent there--it's for clearance of the brake rod I think.

My 77 550 has one as well. It must be to clear the brake arm rod linkage holder thingy. That's the only thing which comes close nearby.

The only reason I knew the answer was that I had the exact same freakout about a month ago...  I almost accused my powdercoater--a totally stand-up individual--of lying to me!!!  Glad I checked here first ;-)
