76 cb750f exhaust on the ground
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:45:24 PM »
Hey, took my first ride today on a bike I picked up for $150 !!  However the exhaust are definitely not for this bike. Every bump I hit I could just here the 4 into 2 pipes hitting the ground and forget about any kind of turning. There are not even any mounting brackets.  But anyway I really like the 4 into 2 "british" kind of look and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a set of pipes for my 76 250f. Every thing I find seems to be for the 79 and newer models. Would a 79 and newer pipe set up work on the 76?
Thanks
Steve

How about a picture.  That sure does not sound right.  The 79 is a DOHC engine so I am not sure it would fit.  The CB750F's are set up for a 4 into 1 system and there are after market ones available.  You may have to make up some type of mount if you want something else.

Ok per request here are some pictures
The left side exhaust hangs way down and as you can see there is just room enough for the toe of a shoe, the Right side exhaust seems to fit pretty nicely.  The two mufflers look different.  I guess im just wondering if anyone know of an exhaust that would fit the 76 cb750f and allow me to keep the look of the 4 into 2?

Thanks

Your strap is broken off. Throw a hose clamp on it or fabricate something.

+1.  Those pipes look pretty decent, the left side just isn't attached properly.

If you really want a change, Benji's Cafe Racers has 4-2 pipes for a 750.  Of course, your $150 bike will quickly become a $1000 bike.
One day, I will put up a signature.

I actually have the exhaust mount clamp thing for the left side however the pipe angle is downward so the mount doesnt even come close I dont think I can leave the left as is since it is so close to the ground. I almost seem like I have 2 right side mufflers. BTW would this system fit a 76 even though it says 79? http://www.motorcycleproshop.com/detail.asp?product_id=001-2609
Thanks

It seem like maybe it's stretched from hanging, You may have to do some massaging, but you could DEFINITELY get it to move a couple inches with some patience.

I actually do not know for sure on the exhaust, As I only know about what I've worked on and that is a SOHC.

I agree with Inks.

Looks like its bent from hanging there.

Massage it back into shape and put a clamp on it.

Cool not sure how to massage the exhaust but this is what I did, I loosened the two head pipes and attached the mounting bracket then I wrestled the heads back into the muffler using a thin coat of ultra copper to make them glide a bit better.  Took a few trys at tightening the headers down but it seem to seal up nice.
As a side note in case anyone out there is wondering it seems as though the 77 and 78 cb750k pipes have the same mounting style as the 76 750f. So i think they might be compatible, Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks
