Handelbar Project Finally Complete...Pics Inside
« on: November 04, 2005, 10:04:30 AM »
 ;D    ;D    ;D    ;D    ;D

After two days of pulling / routing wires and cables , cursing, and throwing tools, the Handelbar project is finished.

I am very happy with how everything turned out in the end. The bike has a much better look to it now.
Still getting used to the ride , as my riding position has changed bigtime. Kinda like I am going head first thru
traffic , which I am not used to as of yet.

While I was changing the bars , I cleaned up allot of the wiring under the tank, Replaced all the cables, and moved the starter button and ign. switch to the back / left side of the bike. Just behind the left side cover , so it is almost out of sight. That in itself cleaned up the bars nicely. Then I got crazy and removed the horn and bracket , along with other misc. tabs and what not that were not in use. Painted the V.Stacks and some other covers flat black , etc...

I still need to get rid of the horribile seat  :'( , but that will come in the Spring  :D.

Thanks for everyones help on this board , I could not of got the bike this far without everyones help.

Where is the S O X decal going to go? A mighty fine bike! Do the bullet lights function as brake lights or turn indicators?

DUSTERDUDE---->   ;D ;D

GOATBASS-----------> No White Sox decal is going on the bike. Not a big baseball fan , but I am proud to live in the Windy City. All the lights, the bullets and the Cateye L.E.D all act as marker/running lights , as well as brake lights. Put off ALLOT of light , which is always good.

METALHEAD550----------> The seat on the bike has got to go, I am aware of this. I am prob. going to pick one up , like the one on the green bike below. I know Carpy sells them for a somewhat decent price. It will be worth it to get that P.O.S seat replaced.

JIM---->
The pipes on the bike are , from what I can tell , stock Honda 4 into 2's. They are starting to rot underneath , so I guess they have been on the bike for awhile , if not from day one. As far as sound , they actually sound pretty good, sience I opened up the holes in the back about double from stock size  ;D A black Kerker 4 into 1 is due for the bike in the spring, or I might keep what I have , maybe alittle ceramic coating , not sure as of now...
MCPUFFETT---------> The bike looks great , with the seat off  ;D , but it kinda makes it hard to ride. The urge to order a new seat is growing , but I cant justify spending the $$$ right as I am about to put the bike away for the winter..Need to deciede on either the seat on the green biek above , or just a stock replacement Honda seat...

Just take the seat to an uhpolsterer and have new foam cut and recovered.  Diana the seat lady here did mine with a butt-stop for 160. Won't know exactly how it will feel until I get the carbs back together, but it looks pretty good.  Often times car shops can do this, too.

I thought about taking the seat to the local hotrod interior shop , but i think I am leaning towards a new "cafe" style seatpan, and will prob. ditch the entire seat that is on the bike now. Not 100% sure at the momment what I wanna do.

But I am not worried , I have all winter to think about it... ::)

If you're gonna ditch the seat anyway take the covering off and cut the foam yourself. If you get a nice shape have it recovered.

Only problem is the slight gap between the seat and the tank. I have a similar seat but I think the gap is a bit larger. I believe you would have to add foam to close that gap.

The bike looks sweeeeeet.

I am gonna mess with the stock seat once the chicago weather really turns to Crap. We still have a few days of riding left this year.
I have helped make a few custom seats at work , so we will see what I come up with when I tackle this one on my own .

Thanks for all the postive feedback about the bike. Can't wait to sink some more cash into it  ;D

you do know that your seat is not the "stock seat", right? Maybe it is a stock pan with a custom foam and recover job but the way your seat is, is not how your bike was delivered from the factory.

Bars look nice. I have a similar bend but not as high and I like it. good job.

I know the seat on the bike is not what came on it from the factory , I just have a habit of calling it "Stock" becasue thats what came on the bike when i bought it.

It has some sort of logo tag on the underneath , so I am pretty sure it is some crappy aftermarket/replacement seat , and not one that was custom made in the years past. Prob. a JCWhitney product , or something along those lines.

The previous owner was cheap , and when the stock/original/Honda seat started to go , I guess he went with a cheap aftermarket seat instead of a factory replacement Honda part.. Prob. the same reason why I have a K8 style gas tank on my bike , when I should have the slimmer one on their from Honda.

I knew you would chime in the momment I mentioned k8
 ;D
The " fat tank " look is not that bad , but I am sure the correct tank would make the lines of the bike flow alittle nicer.
