Here’s one very interesting idea – a motorcycle for firefighters! Yes indeed, the Firexpress BMW R1200RT is meant to be an ‘immediate response’ vehicle that can get to the scene first, ahead of firefighting trucks and/or other, bigger vehicles. While bigger trucks may take more time to make their way through traffic and get to wherever help might be needed, a quicker, vastly more manoeuvrable motorcycle should certainly be able to get there much quicker…

The Firexpress system fitted to the BMW can carry up to 25 litres of water/foam and around seven kilos of compressed gas, which is sufficient for more than two minutes of constant spray. The system sprays micro-droplets of water in a controlled, low-speed stream that can reach up to 11 meters.

The Firexpress R1200RT, which can travel at speeds of up to 140km/h, isn’t, of course, a substitute for full-blown firefighting trucks, but as a first response vehicle, we suppose it could be quite handy. Plus, with its emergency lights and sirens, the Firexpress R1200RT looks way cooler than any fire truck we’ve ever seen. More info here and here.

Very cool! I can't believe it can continually spray for that long with such small tanks.

It kinda looks like he's having a bit of difficulty putting that van fire out.  They don't actually show the fire out at the end.  Now if you could fill the tanks with beer it would be a true Bavarian vehicle.  "It can race to the scene at over 140kph and get some chick to put out in two minutes."

they have harleys for EMS folks here in columbia, nothing like that beemer though

A good idea but that foam stuff didn't put out the fire very well. The guy is all over the vehicle but it just won't go out. What's the point of a rapid response vehicle if the foam or whatever he's spraying around doesn't work.

If a first responder to a fire can control the growth of the fire somehow, the damage can be slowed until the big rig gets there to put it out.


Any advantage in firefighting is worth the money IMO.

Putting out a vehicle fire has got to be horrid, all the chemical compounds in it that are hard to put out. Granted it wasn't completely out by the end of the vid, but it did seem to be under control and was beginning to go out. It is an interesting idea.
