clutch basket adjustment.
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:39:22 PM »
My son did a motor rebuild on my 71 CB 750 and the clymer book said torque the clutch basket bolts to 7 lbs which he did and we ran it to night and it slips. The free play is fine. But he did say that after he torqued it to the 7 lbs that it seemed to loose. Does any one have a diff torque setting or is there a diff way?
Thanks.

My uncle was a tech for a local honda m/c dealer for about 20 yrs and i have his shop manuals from when he was there. In the clutch section it says torque value 7lbs and under that he hand wrote "re-torque to 12 to 14lbs" You might try that but you definatly dont want to over tighten cuz that will open a whole nother can-o-worms and you might check your plate's to make shure there in correctly
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. He had made them tighter but then you cant pull the clutch. On a dirt bike you just tighten it all tight and the springs set the tention for you. This threw us of a bit. We will try the 12-14 lb and let you know.
