Sailing when im not riding
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:26:59 PM »
Took the hobie cat up to the lake for a regatta this weekend. Regatta is the sailors equivalent to a road race i guess.  And flying a hull is like draging a knee through a corner. My sail boat is the same year as my cb550. 1976. making 4 out of 5 vehicles i own older then i am.

Awesome. Need to get one so I can sail again. It must take a good breeze to get a cat up on its haunches like that.

Great action shots.  My wife is hopeless with a camera so it's always her in the photos.  The first three are from our last trip on Lake Superior from Thunder Bay to the Slate Islands.  We are going back later this summer.  Last two are earlier on Lake Huron.

I've spent a lot of time on the water, both professionally (100 ton Inland Masters License) and personally between Juneau and Cabo.  I like the idea of a sailing thread... will post some pics later on.  I do love old wooden boats.

Haven't had a yatch since I was a teenager but I do have a 5.5m Haines Hunter, lovely old boat, heavey as and great for wave crushing when it turn to crap miles from home.
90HP Evinrude on the back, drinks gas like a V16. :D
Hasn't seen the water in 4 months (all my mates with boats are complaining too about the weather) so believe it is suffering from trailer rot. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Okay, so here are a few shots of sexy wooden boats...

First is of Seawulf and Resolute in Princess Louisa Inlet in the Spring of 2001.  I was the captain of Seawulf (on the left)

Next is a shot from Rockland, Maine and the winter of 2001.  I spent 8 months working on the rebuild of a 150ft schooner... Everything on the boat removed and rebuilt except the main engine.  Ask me about compression fuel fittings.

Just a nice one onboard Resolute, somewhere in the Gulf Islands.

Setting up the tow line from Westward to Orpheus.  The 1924 yacht with the original Atlas engine (86rpms) towed us from Victoria to Barkley Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island to save time!

Orpheus tied alongside Westward once we got there.  We got to be the sailing dinghy!  Shortly after this trip Westward left for a 'round the world trip.

sigh.

The small boats are the best sailing!  I'd love to spend some time on either of those fast and fun boats!

Couldn't help post one more, my ride in SE Alaska for a few years.
