Point gap open or closed?

I recently purchased a '70 cb750. After a new battery bike starts fine but does not fire on cyl 2&3. Last weekend it "healed" itself and was running strong. This weekend it is back to the same problem. I have a few questions but lets start with this. Clymer says to rotate to the "F" for fully open, which I did and adjusted the points. However when I continue to turn the crank the points open further before closing. Another article that I read says to rotate until they "are" fully open. So which is true? Also,  are both sets or point supposed to be open at the same time or is one supposed to close while the other is open?

Go to the FAQ section and look for Manuals,there you can download the Honda Maintenance Manual.
Gap is set on the highest position of the camlobe , not at the F mark.
The F mark is where the points should start to open.

If you set the point gap like that, you would be lucky if it even started.

You just have to turn the crankshaft until you see the biggest gap on the points, and measure it there. As one opens, the other one will close, so make sure that you measure each one separately, then remeasure them again just to make sure.

readjusted the points and all is well.
