What tank will fit a CB350F (with some mods possible...)
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:01:14 PM »
Hi, will a CB350 tank fit a CB350F? Is there any way to make it work? THere is a tank with petcock in green which i need in good condition that I could possibly use BUT  i don't know if it would fit or not..or look good or not for that matter..

are there any other tanks that would fit?

Thanks, Adam

Anything can be made to work, but no, a cb350t tank is not a direct swap to the cb350f.
A rubber mallet, a dremel, a hammer, a chisel, and a welder will do it.

I stuck a CB350 twin tank onto a CB350F awhile back because I was short a CB350F tank.  Unless you're totally set on the shape of the twin tank, I wouldn't do it.  The changes looked to be pretty major to me.  Primarily around the back end of the tank if I remember correctly.  The twin tank is narrower at the back.  I just broke down and bought a 350F tank.

A CB400F tank will fit, but they are harder to find than 350F tanks and more expensive.  Not sure that the 400 tank isn't longer also if you're using a stock seat.

If I bought the tank and made it fit on the 350F, would anything look bad once it was fitted? I mean in terms of not being long enough, wide enough, etc. Would the tank itself have to be cut into?

I am strongly considering getting this tank I am looking at, because my dad said he would pay up to $100 of it for me, its currently a ebay Item....

Thanks to all those who provide input, I really need some opinions..

Thy can be had for a lot less than 100 dollars. Where are you located?
The 350t tank is shorter and wider than the 350f tank. The guides that fit around the rubber brackets will need to be removed, and something will have to be done to get the tank to stay nicely on the backbone without those. There will be a gap between the front of the stock seat and the back of the tank.

im located in wadesville, which is about 20 minuits away from evansville in southern indiana ..

my dad says he can get somebody to custom weld stuff etc. to make it fit, ... but man I don't like taking expensive risks like this. he will be the one paying for it, the only part on the motorcycle he is helping me pay for but anyhow. i sorta have 3 jobs right now and almost 100% of the funds are go ing into the cycle currently...

Is there a particular reason you want a 350t gas tank on your 350f?

I don't know if there will be a petcock problem. I can check tomorrow, if you like, moving a 350f and a 350t to my workspace.

You could call this guy and ask him how much for the tank...

the reason is because my tank has a large dent in it (done by the radiator shop), one of the nuts on the inside (for the petcock) broke off when I payed $60 to get it re-lined, and my petcock is all messed up because the bike sat in a garage with gas in it for over 15 years...and its gonna cost 50$ min. to rebuild my messed up petcock with is probably too far gone to work.

its just that i cant find a tank, and i cant find a petcock, ... and I really want to get it on the road this summer...

its been a project since like April and hasnt been on the road since I have had it....

I put a 350f tank on a '70 cl350 and the tank fit with no modifications, though it looked way too wide for the bike. I know this is the opposite of what you are doing and I don't know for sure if the cb twin tanks mounts are spaced differently than the cl twin tank mounts but if you are looking for a cheap option it may work for you. If there is a motorcycle junkyard near you it may be worth your time to head down with a measuring tape and check mounts and tunnel clearance that way.

And I agree that you should be able to pick up a decent 350f tank for less than $100, unless you are looking at a pristine example.

Cheers!

Again, it doesn't work opposite. I've tried it. Needs some serious reworking to fit.
